Introducing Beaver Brew — a Bemidji State beer to support student-athletes
Bemidji State Athletics fans have a new way to support student-athletes thanks to Beaver Brew, a BSU Athletics-branded alcoholic beverage that will be on sale at select home games and at restaurants, bars, and stores across town.
In partnership with Southern Fresh Farms Co. and the Bemidji State Alumni & Foundation, $1 from every Beaver Brew sale will be directed to BSU Athletics. Southern Fresh Farms is owned by David Boehm, a 2013 Bemidji State alumnus who also played for the men’s hockey team.
Beaver Brew will be on sale at all home games for BSU football and men’s and women’s hockey in 2026-27. It’s also on tap and available now at the Bemidji Town & Country Club, Buffalo Wild Wings, The Garden Grill & Pub, Keg N’ Cork, and The Tavern on South Shore. Cans are available at Corner Bar, First City Liquor, Lakeview Liquor, and Northern Liquor. Fans can also expect to see Beaver Brew at more of their favorite Bemidji-area locations in the coming weeks.
Mt. Olive Lutheran Church at Trail with Pastor Peter Estrem will be having a final regular worship service on September 12 at 9:00 a.m. with Holy Communion.
On September 19 at 11:00 a.m., a special service will be held to celebrate 108 years of ministry and history of Mr. Olive Lutheran Church along with the decommissioning of the church building. A potluck meal will follow at the Pavillion.
All are welcome to join as they gather in gratitude, remembrance and fellowship.

We collect used eyeglasses in the Richards Publishing office in Gonvick. They are for the Lions Club.
Minnesota voters are deciding this fall whether schools should get more money from a state trust fund. The constitutional amendment would increase payouts from the Permanent School Fund. The fund was established in 1858 with proceeds from the sale of timber and minerals. Supporters say the change could give districts more flexible funding without raising taxes. Advocates are trying to raise awareness of the amendment because ballots with the question left blank will be counted as no votes against the proposal.

1 person dead after police shooting on Red Lake Nation
An individual is dead after a police officer shot at them with their service weapon on the Red Lake Nation Thursday August 13, according to a special agent with the FBI.
The Red Lake Police Department responded to reports regarding a person discharging a firearm in a residential area of the northern Minnesota reservation. FBI Supervisory Special Agent Matthew Vogel said the officer discharged their weapon "at a suspect" after responding. The suspect later died.
The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy and determine the individual's cause of death, according to Vogel.

The 2026 wild rice season and the Minnesota DNR is reminding harvesters that it is illegal to harvest rice stands until they are fully ripe. Trying to harvest rice before it is ripe can damage the plants not only for this year, but for years to come. Harvesters are allowed to take wild rice during the harvesting season from Aug.15 through Sep. 30, but Minnesota’s “Green Rice Law” prohibits the taking of unripe or “green” rice.
Carson Wentz is back with the Minnesota Vikings training camp, and for No. 11 Carson Wentz, it also marked training camp No. 11 of his NFL career. The former Bismarck Century and North Dakota State standout is entering his second season with the Vikings and is back with the team he grew up cheering for. "Getting a chance to come back here was definitely in the cards for awhile," Wentz said. "Ultimately, I felt confident with it. Being a fan as a kid was not really a part of the decision, but it does make it more fun being back here in the purple and gold, the team I grew up cheering for. Excited for this team and the group of guys we have."

Little Lena came skipping home from Sunday School one day. She was eating an ice cream bar. “Well, where did you get dat Little Lena?” asked her mother. “ I got it at the ice cream store with the two quarters yew gave me when you sent me to Sunday School,” said Lena.
But those quarters were for Sunday School scolded her mother.
Well ya, I know dat, said Lena. But don’t worry, The preacher vas at the door and he let me in free.

• Red Lake School had four positions to be filled. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is waiving vehicle permit fees at all 73 state parks and recreation areas. This Free Park Day is one of four days each year on which visitors don’t need a vehicle permit at state parks and recreation areas. The DNR offers one-free day in each season, giving Minnesotans an opportunity to experience the parks at different times of year.
