Many taxpayers are receiving identity verification letters from the IRS this tax season. These letters are sent to protect you from identity theft and tax fraud.

📩 Common letters you may receive:
• Letter 5071C – Identity Verification
• Letter 4883C – IRS needs to verify your identity
• Letter 5747C – Requires in-person verification
• Letter 6331C / 5447C – Return processing verification

✅ What You Should Do:
1️⃣ Do NOT ignore the letter. Your tax refund may be delayed until verification is completed.
2️⃣ Read the letter carefully to see the steps required.
3️⃣ Verify your identity online or by phone using the instructions provided in the letter.
4️⃣ Have these items ready:
• A copy of the verification letter
• Your tax return
• Social Security Number or ITIN
