Designing for another designer changes the assignment a little.

Desro’s audience already has an eye for typography, composition and detail, so there wasn’t much room for a decision that couldn’t hold its own.

The identity stayed focused. The website carried the same visual language forward without adding complexity for the sake of it.

The brand and website for this project were designed together, which meant the visual language didn’t have to be translated from one phase to the next.

Typography, color and the overall direction established in the identity could carry naturally into the website.

The result feels connected from the first brand touchpoint through the digital experience.

One of my favorite parts of this work is how different one project can look from the next.

Right now, my desk includes everything from wedding photography to catering to countertops. Past projects have taken me into needlepoint, interiors, hospitality, fine art, paper goods and plenty of places in between.

The industry changes. The job stays surprisingly consistent: understand the business first, then make design decisions that make sense for it.

Before I design anything, I think.

There are four questions I come back to at the start of every project. Who is this for, specifically. What do I want them to feel. What makes this business different. What does the brand need to communicate before anyone reads a word.

Those questions — and the answers to them — are where a brand actually begins. The Figma file comes later. The strategy is what makes it work.

Outgrowing your brand rarely feels like one big moment.

It feels like a collection of small ones. The apology before you share your link. The inquiry that's fine, just not quite right. The quiet awareness that your work has moved forward and your brand is still sitting in an earlier version of your business.

I hear some version of this from almost every client before we start working together. And every time, the thing I want them to know is: this is normal. It means you've built something worth updating.

A little something different for Elizabeth Dugan Photography.

Elizabeth came to us not for a full rebrand, but for the kind of refinement that takes a brand from good to genuinely specific. Alongside updates to her website, we created a set of custom illustrations — each one a detail from her actual life. A Coke and a camera. A butter dish. Makeup brushes. A palm tree. A YSL bag. Needlepoint.

Each piece says something true about who she is and the experience her clients are walking into. That’s what good branding does at this level — it doesn’t just look elevated. It feels like the person behind it.

I get some version of this question before almost every project starts.

"Is it worth it?"

It's a fair thing to ask. Brand and website work is a real investment, and I'd rather have an honest conversation about it than oversell the outcome.

Here's what I've seen consistently with clients: the work that changes first is the work of selling yourself. When the brand matches the quality of what you deliver, pricing conversations get easier. Inquiries come in pre-qualified. You stop hesitating before you send someone your link.

The less tangible thing (and the one clients bring up more than I'd expect) is the confidence piece. Knowing your brand is out there representing you well, even when you're not actively marketing, even when you're with your family or between projects. That's harder to put a dollar amount on.

So is it worth it? For the right person at the right stage, yes. And part of my job is helping you figure out if that's where you are.

One of the things that makes a design project go well (or not) is how prepared the client is coming in.

You don't have to have it all figured out - that's why I'm here! But a few things will genuinely make a difference in how smoothly things go and how much you love the result.

Knowing your audience, having professional photography that reflects where your brand is going, being clear on your timeline, and your realistic budget range.

None of it has to be perfect or the final draft - but having an idea of this list helps us tremendously (and it correlates to your project timeline).

Ever wondered what you're actually paying for when you invest in brand design?

A logo is part of it, but a well-designed brand is a system. Colors, typography, usage rules, and a guide that tells you how to apply it all consistently. We want to leave you with the tools to help it stick and to implement it.

What's not automatically included: copywriting, photography, social templates, print design. Always confirm scope before a project begins. (although we do offer just about all of those things to our clients!)

And if you're in the research phase and want to talk through what brand design makes sense for where your business is — I'm happy to have that conversation.
