Trade shows become small cities, then disappear within seven days.

An empty convention hall becomes power, internet, freight, signage, security, food service, waste removal, meeting spaces and emergency access.

Hundreds of businesses move in. Thousands of people arrive. An entire city is built, operated and dismantled on a schedule measured in days.

You can plan an exhibit down to the last detail, but once your team starts using it, things change.

A chair gets moved. Products end up somewhere else. The presentation area nobody used becomes a place to have conversations.

That’s the stuff I’d pay attention to.

Because what happens during the show might tell you more about what you need next than the plan you started with.

Six months out, everyone is feeling pretty good. 🎉

Two weeks out, dinner for four is dinner for twelve, someone who was “probably going” needs a flight, and sentences beginning with “Could we still…” are multiplying. 😳

Last-minute trade show scrambling isn’t always about poor planning. 🤔

When exhibitors start planning a 10' x 20', the conversation often turns to what won't fit. What often gets overlooked is how much can be accomplished in 200 square feet.

Meeting areas, product displays, demonstrations, presentations, and storage don't have to compete for space. More square footage isn't always the answer.

We spent years figuring out how to give trade show attendees less stuff. Fewer brochures, fewer catalogs and fewer things destined for the bottom of a tote bag. Technology made that pretty easy.

But somewhere along the way, the pendulum may have swung a little too far. If we're not giving people all that stuff anymore, what ARE we supposed to give them?

Maybe the answer isn't more information. It's something thoughtful enough to keep the connection going.
