This summer our Deputy Director Dr. Tamara Brothers served as a mentor for the DIAL internship program hosted by the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County . For the first time, Wake County joined five other communities across the country to support college students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in arts leadership. The ten-week paid internship is designed to give students hands-on experience that will be applicable in the real world, as well as access to a built-in network of arts leaders across sectors.

Dr. Brother's mentor, Jahleesa (Community Music School), was the assistant program director of the school’s summer music camp and gained experience in grant writing.

Cheers to the United Arts Council, Dr. Brothers, and all of the interns 👏👏. Learn more about the benefits of the program over on the United Arts Council blog: https://bit.ly/DIAL-intern

At the North Carolina Museum of Art, we believe in the power of art and how it can connect communities. So, when we set out to update the Museum brand as another exciting layer to the reimagining of the People’s Collection, we didn’t have to look very far for inspiration.

The iconic rings of "Gyre" by Thomas Sayre visually encapsulate the Museum’s sweeping indoor and outdoor collection and the intersection of art, nature, and people. As a groundbreaking seminal commission in 1999 for the developing Museum Park, "Gyre" is by the hand of a North Carolina artist with international recognition.

Director Valerie Hillings talked with Sayre about his artistic process and the initial sketches of his first public earth-casting sculpture. From these conversations came a new logo that evokes volume, forward motion, and a distinct sense of place.

Learn more about our new brand identity on Circa, the Museum blog, and its connection to the Museum's mission, values, and commitment to accessibility, at https://bit.ly/3dYcOXd.

And save the date for our opening weekend, October 8 and 9, when we unveil the new People's Collection galleries with free celebrations featuring free artist-led tours, dance, music, and so much more. ncartmuseum.org/peoplescollection
