As a business owner, time management can become a daunting task. You start your day with the best intentions of being productive, then BAM, someone calls in sick, or you have a client dealing with a major issue that needs attention. Before you know it, your day is gone, and nothing you wanted to accomplish got done.
Here is a list of tips to help make time management a bit more manageable:
Plan - I like to plan my entire week out on Sunday. From meal planning for my family, to project planning for my clients, I know what I’m facing, and how much time each task requires. I use an actual paper planner, (yes, I’m still old school), but whatever type of planner or app you’re most comfortable with and most likely to use, use it!
Limit Distractions - This is so important! Turn your phone to do not disturb, lock your door, get to work early. Whatever it takes, have a set amount of time per day that you set aside to focus without distractions.
Single-Task - Trying to multi-task will get you nowhere, and likely leave you frustrated and unproductive. Our brains aren’t made to do 6 things at one time. Focus on the task at hand, finish it and move on!
Check It Off - This is my favorite step! When a task is complete, physically check it off of your planner. There is nothing more rewarding than accomplishing a task, so make a deal of it!
