Anthropic just shared a notable statement: the US government has issued an export control directive forcing the suspension of access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models for all foreign nationals — which in practice meant pulling both models for every customer overnight.

The reasoning, as Anthropic lays it out, centers on a claimed "jailbreak" of Fable 5. But after reviewing the demonstration, Anthropic says it only surfaced a handful of minor, already-known vulnerabilities that other widely available models can find too — without any bypass at all.

What stands out to me is the bigger principle at play. Anthropic is complying with the directive, but openly disagrees with it, arguing that recalling a model used by hundreds of millions over a narrow, non-universal jailbreak would set a precedent capable of halting frontier model deployment across the entire industry. They make a thoughtful case for a transparent, fair, technically grounded process when governments intervene in AI deployments.

On a personal note: I really enjoyed using this the few days I had access. It's a shame to see it go offline, and I'm hoping access is restored soon.

Spent the morning re-engineering our email sending stack from the ground up.

Two verified sending domains. 2048-bit DKIM signatures on every message. DMARC alignment with daily aggregate reports landing in a real inbox. HMAC-signed webhook receivers feeding a custom CRM that tracks every delivery, open, click, and bounce in real time. Domain reputation monitored at Google Postmaster across four properties. 2FA on every account that touches outbound.

Most "enterprise email" out there is Gmail with a paid upgrade. Fine for the kid's soccer schedule. Not fine for a client engagement that matters.
