Here’s the thing they don’t tell you about working in PR and communications:
You will save your clients thousands of dollars. And it will rarely be recognized.
Anyone with a business email address in 2026 is inundated with spam and AI emails that sound very promising, lucrative, and real. There are even businesses that are *technically* real, offering your clients pie-in-the-sky promises that amount to nothing - all for a very special discounted rate.
From scammy production companies using celebrity names to advertorials disguised as editorials. From AI offerings to paid podcasts with no real audience. It’s a nonstop modern-day “Who’s Who” book of empty promises sold to business owners and executive decision makers who are just trying to do their best. And they don’t have the time or tools to navigate a growing landscape of nonsense.
You are often the only line of defense to keep them from getting scammed by offers that will do nothing to move their ROI - and, at worst, damage their reputation. Plus, when you’re managing social media, you’ll spend countless hours blocking scams, bots, and ever-growing clever phishing scams.
Your clients will not always take your advice. And it will often feel thankless. But you are doing an invaluable service.
To all the other communications professionals doing this unseen work: remember how much value you bring in a world full of schemes and misinformation. In 2026, we are needed more than ever.
