I knew working with Ryan & Jason was going to be fun and smooth from our very first meeting! My cheeks hurt from smiling and I could tell they had given their wedding a lot of thought. They had a good plan from the start as to what they were looking for in their invitations and were open to suggestions when something they said sparked an idea! The end result is this gorgeous wedding suite that fit the vibe of them and their wedding day perfectly!

Back to and today’s prompt is Start the Day.

I truly believe that mornings filled with the proper level of caffeine are brighter! My mornings are typically pretty hectic - getting myself ready for my PT office job while helping my kids get ready for school. But once they get on the bus, I have a glorious 20 minutes to sip my coffee, check my email, and respond to any pressing emails before heading out the door. Then when I get home 4 hours later, I sit back down in the same spot with a fresh cup of coffee and pick right back up where I left off!

Day 2 of the challenge is All About You. I’m determined to not fail on the second day so I’m pushing myself out of my comfort zone and posting a very rare photo of myself!

I’m a lot of things, but the most important is a single mom of two amazing kids, Alexandra (11) and Benjamin (8). Everything I do is either directly or indirectly for them, even the things that appear to just be for me: I firmly believe parents who are whole people that pursue their own interests and model positive relationships and going after their dreams is super healthy for their kids to witness!

Here are some other things I am:
- Business owner (CEO, janitor, and everything in between)
- Graphic & website designer (anyone need a new logo or website?, lol)
- Future Superhost of Airbnbs (renovating my first one now!)
- Novice banjo player (I just started taking a class… 9 years after buying a banjo and making excuses to not learn how to play)
- Part-time admin professional at my sister’s accounting firm (it’s tax season - serenity now!)
- Book lover (but only on my kindle… don’t judge)
- Plant enthusiast (but only houseplants. If it’s outside, I can’t manage to keep it alive - go figure!)
- Fiercely loyal sister, daughter, aunt, girlfriend and friend
- Kick ass word game player (Boggle, Wordle, and Words with Friends are my favorites!)

This month I’m participating in the challenge to give you a little insight into me and why I do what I do!

Today’s prompt is: Brand origin. I always knew I would be a designer. I went to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh majoring in graphic design, and upon graduation, I worked as the in-house designer for a local marketing consultant. I learned a lot from my boss - namely, how NOT to run a business! 😬 After about 2 years of working there, she wanted me to start cold calling businesses to sell my services to them, and I thought - if I’m going to do that, I’m going to do it for myself! So I put in my 2 weeks notice and broke out on my own.

That was 18 years ago! 😮

The company I started was called Design Intervention, and I did branding and website design for businesses. Then one day, I got a call that changed the trajectory of my career forever.

That call was from former Pittsburgh Steeler Chukky Okobi, who was turning his gorgeous home into a B&B and wedding venue called The Mansion at Maple Heights. He hired me to be his graphic designer and we worked together for years.

When he was putting together a list of preferred vendors for his clients, he asked me if I designed wedding invitations. At the time I didn’t, but I knew I could and thought I’d enjoy that, so I told him yes. And since I knew I couldn’t market to brides the same way I market to companies, I started a new division called Purple Wagon Designs.

That was 13 years ago! 😮😮

Purple Wagon steadily grew from being a small side business to being my main bread & butter. I love working with couples who are literally planning the happiest day of their lives and *I* get to be a part of it! How cool is that?!

That being said, I also love helping small businesses grow and showcase their products and services in a professional light. Today, I have a good mix of both wedding work and corporate work and I love them equally!

Special thanks to who positively affected the path of my career more than he probably knows!

Oh! And this photo is of the very first sketches I drew of my logo all those years ago ❤️
