You don't expire at 50.

I almost let my age make a decision for me.

"I'm in my 50s. Maybe I'm too late to start something like this."

Then I actually thought about what I was saying.

Too late to WHAT?

Learn?

Make more money?

Build something?

Change what the next 10 years look like?

Absolutely not.

I'm not starting from nothing.

I'm starting with decades of life experience, work ethic, people skills and a whole lot less patience for my own excuses. ❤️

You don't expire at 50.

And I'm done acting like I do.

I want more money for very sophisticated reasons.

Like taking my grandbabies somewhere on a random Tuesday.

🍦(Ice Cream!)

That's genuinely one of them.

I want two Mimi days a week.

Two days where daycare doesn't decide the schedule.

We can hunt for rocks, find shark teeth, go to a farm, hit a playground, swimmin’ in the river, or just make up the day as we go.

Not five days.

Mimi has boundaries and these children are feral. 😂

But TWO?

That's part of what I'm building toward.

More money is great.

But what I really want is more CHOICE over normal days like Tuesday.

This is probably the least glamorous "online business" photo you'll ever see.

Bus parked.

Phone out.

Me learning between routes.

I didn't have another 8 hours a day to give to something.

I DID have pockets of time.

30 minutes here.

An hour there.

A little time after my morning route.

So instead of waiting for my schedule to magically clear itself, I'm learning how to use the time I already have.

That's one of the things that made this model make sense to me.

Can I tell you what finally started bothering me?

“Checking the bank account to see how much money we had before putting gas in the car.”

We work. Since we were both 14.

My husband works full-time, some overtime.

I work 2 sometimes 3 jobs.

We're not sitting around doing nothing.

But then something extra happens...

Car repair.🚙
Shoes.👟
Dinner with the family.🍔
Something wrong with the house.🏠

And suddenly we're deciding what credit card it's going on, or what’s not getting paid till later.

I don't want to spend the next decade simply getting better at juggling expenses.

Or “Stealing from Peter to pay Paul” as my Mom always said.

I want (NEED) to change the amount of money coming IN.

That's a big reason I'm learning something completely new right now.

Anybody else ever think... we work too damn hard for money to still feel this tight?😤

Things nobody tells you about driving a school bus...

You can be having the smoothest morning of your life and then 30 seconds later 3 kids have changed seats, 1 kid dropped their water bottle which is now leaking, 4 kids are calling your name AND you're driving a giant yellow bus through construction traffic. 🚌

And somehow... I love it.❤️

I love the early mornings.

I love driving something that big.

I love knowing the families.

I’m building relationships with my kids, like I’m making an impact.

And I'm ridiculously proud of my safety record.😂(I feel kinda stupid mentioning it here but I AM proud of it)

This job is a BIG part of who I am at this time of my life. ❤️

So yes, you're probably going to see a lot more School Bus Driver Krystal around here.

Lord help us all. 🤣🤣🤣

If you are new here, I want to reintroduce myself.

I'm in my 50s.

I drive a school bus.
I'm a wife.
I'm a Mimi.

And now I'm learning how to build an online business.

Not exactly the plot twist I saw coming. 🤣

I'm not techy.

I don't have some giant following.
I'm not trying to become an influencer.

I just got to a point where I realized I still want MORE out of the next chapter of my life.

More breathing room financially.

More days with my grandbabies.

More choices.

And less "maybe someday."

So I'm going to share this part while I'm actually IN it.

The learning.

The awkward stuff.

The wins.

The things I screw up.

All of it.

When the Lights Go Off

There’s a particular kind of panic that hits when a service gets shut off because you couldn’t pay the bill.

If you’ve been there, you know.

The embarrassment.

The scrambling.

Trying to figure out what money can be moved from where.

And if you haven’t been there, I’m genuinely glad.

I have.

More than once in my life.

And that’s probably why financial security means something very different to me now.

I’m not dreaming about mansions.

I want the electric bill paid without thinking twice.

I want a car repair to be annoying instead of a crisis.

I want to sleep without doing math in my head.

That’s my version of rich these days.

Peace doesn’t look flashy on Instagram. But damn, it looks good to me. ❤️

I Literally Sold My Plasma

When I say I’ve done whatever I had to do to make ends meet… I mean WHATEVER.

I’ve worked two jobs.

Three jobs.

At times, basically four.

I’ve DoorDashed after working all day.

I’ve donated plasma for money.

I’ve even participated in medical research studies because I needed the extra cash.

Not exactly the glamorous “boss babe” story. 😂

But that’s real life.

There were bills to pay and people depending on me.

I’m proud that I’ve always been willing to work.

I’m just finally questioning why working myself into the ground was the only answer I ever had.

At 54, I don’t want another job.

I want another way.

I’m not afraid of hard work. I just want my hard work to finally build something for ME.
