Memorial Day means something different depending on who you ask.
For many Americans, today is time with family, a long weekend, the start of summer.
For others, it is a date permanently attached to a name, a phone call, or a folded flag.
Some of the men and women we lost never made it home. Others came home carrying wounds that followed them long after their war ended.
This weekend, call someone. Not a text. Pick up the phone.
Check on the friend who disappeared from the group chat. Invite someone over. Share a story about someone who should still be here.
That is how memory survives.
Donnie was a friend, mentor, and someone deeply respected by the people around him. Through the stories shared by those who knew him, he is still with us.
Honor the fallen. Remember the living.
