My favorite print failure to-date. Bed adhesion problem, now corrected with a magnetic shark skin spring steel print bed.

Ambient temperature, and especially changes in temperature, affects bed adhesion, and to a lesser extent layer adhesion, and none of our R&D printers are in enclosures. We’ve seen some failures most easily attributable to that. This is ultimately easily solvable with printer enclosures and or facility climate control. Most of our test machines are in tech’s garages, so we see some temp flux. That said, overall, our printers have done quite well even in these environments and only when we get really cold or really hot is when it seems to matter overmuch.

This print of a custom chess set, which requires multiple individual subset model prints, is almost halfway done.

The alternate color/media will be a silver/black.

The board will be mounted to a 3/4” black oak base with a gray felt underside and rubber soft-grip feet.

Ok so the first color run of the chess set, while mostly perfect, was nonetheless ultimately a failure. One piece, a knight, delaminated on the bed side ever so slightly. I will re-print that piece and get a successful job through the queue, but what we’re shooting for is zero failures and no extra prints or reprints.
