While it is not often I speak of my volunteer efforts, it is something that is very important to me - especially when the world feels less and less kind. Of all the volunteer hats I wear (food shelf, teaching and board member) this one is definitely the hardest. But it “fills my bucket” because it reminds me I (we) can do hard things and that as dark as the world gets any little bit of light helps.

It's not just what I do—it's how I process the world. Creativity is my therapy, my compass, my voice —and sometimes, my quiet form of protest. My own personal resistance. Making something just for me is how I come back to myself which helps me to connect with others.

The end of the month signaled the end of my Cancer Sucks Fundraiser… or did it!?!

Well, for me, it means people like Hope, aka the Vermont Quilt Bee. A kind Vermonter-friend with several green thumbs and an amazing tenacity and eye as an artist - and several honorable awards under her belt. She spends her winters (read: THOUSANDS of hours) hand sewing quilts that are just so amazingly beautiful that I am afraid to touch them. I've documented a few of her artworks over the years but this one is my new fav.
