Let me stick my nose all up in your business for a minute to present to you 🐶
😱 3 Personality Squashing Mistakes That I See Small Businesses Making Daily on Instagram😱
1. Being too “salesy” in the comments. Have a conversation with folks with no strings attached. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to “Always be selling.” In fact, by not selling, and investing in real interactions, you’re actually selling the idea that you’re a human worth connecting with and investing in 😏
2. Talking like someone you’re not. Or rather, talking like a robot. Some are actually already taking advantage of stories - those that are, sometimes leave themselves exposed to inconsistencies between their true self that’s seen talking in their stories and their ideal self that’s seen in their posts’ copy. It’s of course a good idea to find a balance that’s showcases your personality and your humor but leaves out jargon and slang that all may not understand. - Unless, of course your entire brand personality and community is built around the usage of that slag that ties you together.
3. Lack of storytelling/personal content. So many businesses, small-large, only post about their products, “promo offers” and “flash sales” and never post anything of substance that will actually tie them more deeply to their community. This means that your followers may never know you or goals, they won’t understand your business’s mission or the reason you love what you do.
🔑 It’s SO IMPORTANT to understand that everyday new online businesses and local businesses are going to keep trying to burst your bubble and steal the attention of your customers by offering “free shipping”, “lower prices”, etc, etc. 😕
💪🏼Your biggest advantage as a local business owner is to truly connect with your customers when you get the chance, virtually or in person, and to make sure that those interactions feel similar and genuine.💪🏼
Don’t let the reason that you’re losing sales be because you weren’t being yourself or because you were scared to put yourself out there…that’d be a shame.
Get on it guys 😉
