December
Our last post is this December First Friday featuring Honolulu City Lights. Every Christmas Season, the City and County of Honolulu puts up the biggest holiday attraction on the island. Honolulu Hale, the City’s Municipal building is transformed into a Winter Wonderful with its holiday season being event kicked-off with an annual Christmas Parade. Each year, an enormous Christmas tree, donated by the public, is put up and regular light decorations fill up the Hale grounds for about a month long. Also every year, the Hale’s courtyard is filled with different Christmas tree decorations done by various City Departments corresponding to a theme. This year, the Honolulu City Lights theme is the “Year of the Hawaiian” and this year they are celebrating 35 years.
Tomorrow, Honolulu City Lights opens on Saturday, Dec. 7 with a block party at 4 p.m. at Honolulu Hale featuring food booths and keiki rides, followed by the electric light parade at 6 p.m. and tree lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. The parade will start at River Street, proceed on King Street past Honolulu Hale and end at Kawaiaha‘o Street.
