The 2024 Hawai‘i Book & Music Festival Returns Live and In-Person
HONOLULU, HI – After being virtual 2020 – 2023, the 19th Hawai‘i Book & Music Festival (HBMF), in partnership with the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UH Mānoa), presents a robust, 2-day program Saturday-Sunday, September 14-15, 2024, on the campus of UH Mānoa.
The Festival will feature 150 events in a dozen venues, with over 300 participants, including six themed programs, the Mainstage for Hula and Music, a Keiki Stage featuring Steve Songs, a Performance Stage featuring hip hop, improv, storytellers, and drama, and a Celebrity Readers Corner for the very young.
Two Author venues will present new works by the best Hawai‘i Authors and Poets, entertaining panels and the annual Hawai‘i Literary Council’s prestigious, annual Elliot Cades Awards for Literature, and the Loretta D. Petrie Awards for Service to the Literary Community. Six VIP Author-Speakers will top the bill. Themed programs will include discussion panels on timely issues in Hawaiian Culture, Sustainability & Resilience, Wellness, and Innovation, and the Impact of AI on the Humanities.
The Publisher’s Village will feature local publishers, exhibitors, a variety of vendors include a variety of food trucks.

HBMF shares a unique culture of storytelling and song in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific. Founded in 2004 by a collective of publishers, booksellers and non-profit leaders as a free event for the community, the HBMF has grown into the most content-rich live event in the state, with stage performers, storytellers, musicians, artists, literary luminaries, and international thought leaders contributing to the wonderful diversity of books, arts, ideas and music that defines us.
