✨ On 9/25, there may be no better reason to turn up Dolly Parton and celebrate everything she stood for. ✨

“9 to 5” was catchy, funny and unmistakably Dolly, but underneath all of that was something very real. It was a song about hardworking people. About showing up, doing your best, wanting to be valued and believing that your dreams could be bigger than your circumstances.

That message feels especially meaningful this year.

Dolly Parton spent her life proving that where you start does not have to determine where you finish. She dreamed big, took chances on herself and never seemed interested in becoming anyone other than exactly who she was. And as her success grew, so did her generosity.

She gave books to children. She supported communities. She helped people without needing to make herself the center of the story. She made people laugh, made people feel seen and reminded generations that kindness and ambition can absolutely live in the same person.

Her life left us with some pretty wonderful reminders:

💗 Believe in yourself, even before everyone else does.
✨ Be unmistakably yourself.
🌱 Never be ashamed of where you came from.
🤍 Choose kindness whenever you can.
📚 Use what you have to open doors for someone else.
🌟 Take the chance. Chase the dream. Do some good along the way.
💎 And leave a little sparkle wherever you go.

So today, on 9/25, turn up a little 9 to 5 and remember the woman behind it.

Dolly’s greatest legacy may not be any one song, movie, award or rhinestone-covered outfit. It may simply be the example she gave us of what can happen when you believe in yourself fiercely, care about other people deeply, work hard for what you want and remember to reach back and help someone else along the way.

Happy 9/25. Here’s to Dolly, and to all the hardworking dreamers she spent a lifetime cheering for. 💗✨

Twenty-five years ago today, our country experienced a day that changed us forever.

For many, September 11, 2001 is still remembered in vivid detail — where we were, who we were with, and the disbelief we felt as the events of that morning unfolded. For a younger generation, 9/11 is history they have learned from the stories of parents, grandparents, teachers and those who lived through it.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost. We honor the firefighters, police officers, first responders and ordinary people who ran toward danger to help others. And we remember the families whose lives were forever changed.

But 25 years later, we also remember something else: how people showed up for one another.

Neighbors helped neighbors. Strangers became friends. Communities gathered. In the midst of unimaginable heartbreak, there were extraordinary acts of courage, kindness and humanity.

That spirit of looking out for one another is worth carrying forward — not just today, but in the way we care for our neighbors and our communities every day.

On this 25th anniversary of September 11, we remember those we lost, honor those who served and sacrificed, and remain grateful for the countless acts of courage and compassion that showed us the very best of humanity.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

As Tropical Storm Edouard approaches the upper Texas coast, heavy rainfall remains a concern for Southeast Texas and Harris County.

The Harris County Flood Warning System can help residents stay aware of changing conditions by providing near-real-time rainfall and stream level information from gages throughout the county.

Residents can use HarrisCountyFWS.org to monitor conditions near their home, workplace, school or commute. The interactive map is available without an account or sign-in.

Tropical Storm Edouard to Strengthen Before Making Landfall on Texas-Louisiana Coastline This Afternoon

The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) is monitoring Tropical Storm Edouard as it continues to move west along the Louisiana and Texas coastline.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) expects Edouard to strengthen prior to making landfall this afternoon near the Texas-Louisiana border. Rainfall amounts of 3-6 inches are possible beginning this afternoon, with some isolated totals of up to 9 inches.

The National Weather Service’s (NWS) Flood Watch has been extended to 7:00 pm Wednesday for Harris County.

What should you do?

Residents are encouraged to be at a safe location by midafternoon on Tuesday. Continue to monitor roadway conditions through Wednesday. Street flooding is possible in areas where the heaviest rain falls. Before getting on the road, check the Houston TranStar live traffic map for information on road conditions.

STAY WEATHER AWARE. Monitor media sources for severe weather information. Follow weather safety advice from the National Weather Service and other official sources.

HAVE MULTIPLE WAYS TO RECEIVE WEATHER ALERTS and be ready to take action should conditions change quickly.

We recently published information about a collaboration between the Harris County Public Library and the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library… this makes us SO sad!

What a beautiful legacy she left behind. We honor her memory today as we mourn the loss of a truly special woman who gave herself so generously to the world. Rest in peace, Dolly. 💕🎵📖

Honoring the Life & Humanitarian Heart of Dolly Parton

Today, we honor the remarkable life and humanitarian legacy of Dolly Parton—and the many ways her kindness has touched generations of children and families.

In 1995, Dolly launched her Imagination Library in Sevier County, Tennessee, where she was born and raised. Inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, Dolly wanted to give children the opportunity to fall in love with books. The program began by providing free books to children from birth through age five and has since grown to reach children throughout the United States and around the world.

Dream More. Learn More. Care More. Be More.

At Cy-Fair Helping Hands, we are especially grateful that some of the children of families we have served have been beneficiaries of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. What a beautiful reminder that a simple gift—a book, a story, a moment of reading together—can open a child’s imagination and help shape a brighter future.

Dolly Parton has shown us that humanitarianism doesn't always begin with something grand. Sometimes, it begins with a book placed in a child’s hands and the belief that every child deserves the chance to dream.

We are grateful for the legacy she has created and for the lives she continues to touch through generosity, compassion, and an enduring belief in the power of children to Dream More, Learn More, Care More, and Be More. Rest in Peace, Dolly. ❤️📚

It’s hard to believe Hurricane Harvey was nine years ago.

For so many across the Greater Houston area, the memories are still vivid—not only of the devastation, but of neighbors helping neighbors, strangers becoming rescuers, first responders working around the clock, and communities showing up for one another in extraordinary ways. 🦸‍♂️
