Updating Your Logo:
Its time! You know it's time! That company logo that your nephew in college created for you back in the 90's is "outdated."
Your concern should be: "Does this make my company/business looked dated?" The very loud answer is YES! Although switching out your company logo shouldn't be as frequent as changing socks, it sometimes is necessary to update. Some points to consider before updating your logo.
When you decide to update your logo, firstly, who will you trust with your vision? Again, your nephew who did your logo shouldn't be the first person to pop into mind. There are so many design programs such as Canva (amongst others) who claim to be able to make it super easy. This is the equivalent of clipart. We always recommend going with a local graphic designer who not only can meet with you occasionally to help direct you, but can also be a great ally when you're in a pinch for other projects. Go ahead and start that relationship now. Finding a good graphic designer is like finding a good doctor. Sometimes you may not like the doctor's bedside manners and you may choose a different direction. That is perfectly fine! You want to LOVE the end product and if you're busy trying to "iron out" an interpersonal conflict with the designer, you're in for a long, bumpy ride. Be "OK" with finding the perfect fit for you.
Secondly, once you've found your designer; communicate your main reason for wanting to change. Maybe it's hard to read the font, maybe it's the colors that are outdated or maybe your logo doesn't suit the 18-wheeler your team drives around. Communicate the number of places you put your logo onto and your designer can guide you. If it's industrial, you may not want to go full process color. If you're on a budget, perhaps you decide that a one-color or two-color logo is the way to go.
