Today is Women's Equality Day, marking the certification of the 19th Amendment in 1920 — a milestone that, in practice, took many more decades to reach every woman in this country.

Hollaway is a woman-owned firm in an industry where that's still the exception. Environmental consulting and heavy civil work have historically been rooms full of men, and while that's changing, it isn't changed. So we'll say the quiet part: it matters who's in the room when a project is scoped, who runs the public meeting, and who sits in the ownership seat.

LaDaja Dunn, our Office + Human Resources Coordinator, is at the 2026 Gulf Coast Symposium on HR Issues — August 5–6 at NRG Center in Houston. This year's theme is Intentional Leadership, and three decades in, GCS has become the Gulf Coast's leading learning experience for HR professionals: Main Stage sessions and a room full of people asking the same question we ask ourselves — how do you build a workplace that actually works?

We send people to rooms like this on purpose. Professional development is one of the easiest lines to cut; nothing visibly breaks the week you skip a conference.
