Today's weekend read addresses an oft-overlooked but eminently important question in the Age of New Media: Just how BIG a role does cyber-storytelling play in producing social change? And could we continue to grow at all as a global society...without it?

Along with the fast-moving, technologically driven rise of so-called UGC (user generated content) and "civil journalism," has emerged a complex and generally ill-conducive web of pros and cons. Stalemate-scrutinization of issues surrounding objectivity, credibility and authenticity — lauded against proof-positive, proactive effects of participative public news-reporting practices...all have perhaps clouded the higher-ground issue at hand.

In all reality, digital mediums have arguably served the greater good in more ways than we've been able to truly assess.

New media spans a broadscope territory that ranges from social networking, blogging and consumer review sites to online forums and streaming video and chat apps. All can all have its downfalls By allowing for the kind of rapid mobilization, global connectedness and expansive outreach necessary to create real and measurable CHANGE — faster and more effectively than could be achieved through traditional publishing mediums alone — NEW MEDIA may well be leading the way towards a new and brighter future...

Even more, can we learn to see SOCIAL GOOD as an end-goal great enough to END the ongoing debate over self-authoring ethics journalistic privilege...and the real possibility of an eventual end to the organized news-media establishment all together?
