Variety is said to be the spice of life. Anything in which we can continually find something new, a difference, will hold our attention indefinitely. Even the most interesting work can become monotonous if there never is a change. We are a restless people, finding life more livable and exciting when we know there is a bit of change in store. One isn't always aware of monotony. It is a subtle something that creeps silently into a well formed routine. And most are unaware of its presence until its victim, interest, begins to lose ground. Sometimes a change of pace fulfills a need for variety, but the most satisfying is one's ability to lay aside a regular routine to lend a hand to a neighbor when he needs it. The very old and happy habit of helping your neighbor never found a body bored. Others don't seem to be interested in our excuses - they merely want performance. Alibis for lack of service, for lack of ability to give a full measure of trust make a bad servant. And we are all servants, serving each other in one way or another. It is an unhappy one who is not depended upon for something. There is great satisfaction in being needed, even to the point of doing more than one is capable of doing. English divine Sidney Smith once wrote, "Try to make at least one person happy every day, and then in ten years you may have made three thousand, six hundred and fifty persons happy, or brightened a small town by your contribution to the fund of general enjoyment." We cannot move a step upon this earth without finding someone to serve. And as we serve each day, we never stop to consider how many we've made happy; but it should be very vivid in our minds how many we've made unhappy.

I don't know of anyone I'd rather see happy than you. Perhaps somewhere along the way you'll also find what causes it and maybe it will be something you can find within your heart to share with others....for only in sharing are we ever really happy. Just remember that it may well be where you least expect it. You may recognize it as something you're about to give away.....But don't worry; it will come back so many times; like love, it seeketh not its own but flies over us like angels. And when it finds a heart big enough to hold all the love it can supply it settles itself, wings and all, within the soul of that love. And then the world will be new. There will be sights you've never seen, yet they have been there all the time.....there will be laughter from the heart.....and gratitude for all of life's privileges. There will be peace and contentment.....and strength abounding to withstand all adversity......and quiet acknowledgment of God. For without God, there could be none of these.

Our condition is a result of disobedience. Every rule has been broken, every law, written and unwritten, has been ignored. A person has to have enough confidence in himself to go ahead and run a good race, even when he knows it is going to be grueling and that he might not be the winner. But that is so much better than sitting down and saying to himself that he isn't good enough to try. Most people tend to lean on the belief that they are not good enough. But no one starts out good enough. It is the getting up and getting into living that makes us good enough. At times self-esteem melts like ice in the sun, but it certainly does not mean we do not qualify. The fight is not with others - but with ourselves. We have to overcome ourselves and all our hidden voices that tell us we are not going to make it. ~ I am here on my own ground and I will never go back. 𝗝𝗔𝗚𝗨𝗔𝗥 𝗛𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗦 & matching flap holsters, circa 1865. Capt. Samuel Richardson fought in the Civil War with the 2nd Texas Cavalry. The jaguar, not leopard, hide pants were decorated with metal buttons at the side. The jaguar pants (calzoneras) and holsters were crafted in Mexico. The jaguar is the largest size cat species in the Americas.

While researching wool California pants, favored for decades by cowhands, I spotted a low-res image of Richardson. After Photoshop restoration, the jaguar hide items are hopefully more clear than in any other version. I horizontally flipped the image so that the carbine"s hammer would appear on the right side.
