Don't condemn yourself. Who of us have not made mistakes? No one is perfect, but we are too quick to call ourselves stupid. We have condemned ourselves for eating - even though that is what we have to do. It's just that we eat because it is convenient, we see it, we eat it. If we can get it without having to cook it - all the better. And all the worse - because it doesn't have in it the nutrients we need and it is gone too quickly and we are not satisfied. Laziness has overtaken our good sense. We let ourselves fall into making it easy on ourselves - and in turn we open the door to making it hard. It is a matter of choices, but not solved by self-criticism. ~ The ground says, "The Great Spirit has placed me here to produce all the grows on me, trees and fruit. ~

WHITE MAN RUNS HIM, 1910. The former Crow (Apsรกalooke) scout posed in war paint. In April 1876, White Man Runs Him was among 25 Crow scouts recruited by Col. John Gibbon, commander of the Montana Column of 7th Infantry from Fort Ellis and Fort Shaw. After Gibbon rendezvoused with Gen. Alfred Terryโ€™s Dakota Column at the steamer Far West, White Man Runs Him was among six scouts assigned to Lt. Col. George Custer just days before the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

White Man Runs Him died in 1929 at about age 70 on his ranch, not far from the LBH Battlefield in Eastern Montana. Text and digital restoration of photo by Gary Coffrin. As always, I hope PC users will click image to enlarge/clarify.

"Our fathers gave us many laws which they had learned from their fathers. These laws were good." --Chief Joseph, NEZ PERCEโ€” The Creator gives us many laws to live by. These are different than the laws of man. The laws of the Creator are designed for us to live in harmony and balance with ourselves and each other. These laws are about having freedom and happiness. Our Elders teach us these laws. Laws about how to treat each other, laws about how to treat and respect our Mother Earth, laws about the environment. Oh Great Spirit, teach me the laws of the unseen world. Today I pray You open my eyes so I can better see the Red Road.

ROARING TWENTIES in rural Montana. In 1928, Helen Meisel, looking cosmopolitan in high heels and a short skirt, and Bob Pewitt posed in front of Jake Hog Farm, midway between Malta and Zortman. The two had come from Chicago to visit Joe Hartmann on his homestead. Hartman had likely picked them up at the Great Northern depot in Malta. Bob Pewitt married Joeโ€™s sister, Katherine, and stayed in the area. I have no information on Helen Meisel.

"So I prayed, but I had to pray from my heart. All of my concentration and thoughts went from my head to my heart. All of my senses - hearing, smell, taste, and feeling - were connected to my heart." --Wallace Black Elk, LAKOTAโ€“ The heart is the gateway to the Unseen World, to the Spirit World. It takes real concentration to do this. To connect to our own heart is also a mental state. It starts in the head and transitions to the heart. This mental state is our inner stillness. Be still and know. This place of the heart is very joyous and peaceful. It is this place that we become one with God, our Creator. Great Spirit, teach me to be a heart warrior.
