Today, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Patience Kimaru for her dedication and service as an intern with CN Vision Image Consulting over the past nine months.

Patience joined us through the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication at the University of Houston and quickly became an important part of our team. Throughout her internship, she helped create, manage, and publish content across our LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter) platforms, helping us share our mission of accessibility, inclusion, independence, and empowerment with a broader audience.

One of the highlights of her internship was documenting Rick San Juan's unforgettable Labor Day 2025 experience. Patience captured Rick fulfilling a lifelong dream as he independently operated a jet ski as a blind rider with Crystal Beach Jet Ski Rentals and later experienced the thrill of parasailing with Third Coast Parasail at Crystal Beach. Through her journalism, communication, and storytelling skills, she helped us share these inspiring moments with our community and demonstrate what is possible when accessibility and opportunity come together.

Patience also documented our Sailing Angels Foundation experiences on November 15, 2025, and April 11, 2026, helping preserve and showcase the joy, confidence, independence, and adventure experienced by our blind and visually impaired participants.

Her contributions have helped CN Vision Image Consulting tell meaningful stories, highlight accessible experiences, and increase awareness of the capabilities and accomplishments of people who are blind and visually impaired.

While we are saddened to see her internship come to an end, we are incredibly grateful for the time, talent, professionalism, and passion she brought to our organization. We wish Patience continued success in her future endeavors and know she will make a positive impact wherever her career journey takes her.

As we reflect on Asian Heritage Month, we’re reminded of the wonderful opportunities we’ve had to celebrate culture, community, and accessibility together.

Back in February, Chelsea C. Nguyen had the pleasure of bringing her blind friends, Ted Galanos and Carol Ancelet, to Houston’s Lunar New Year Dragon and Lion Dance Festival. Through live audio description, they were able to experience the excitement, colors, movements, and traditions of the performances in a meaningful way.

One of the highlights of the day was meeting and speaking with the lion and dragon dancers, as well as having the opportunity to touch and feel the traditional costumes, dragon and lion heads, and drums used during the performances. These hands-on experiences transformed the event into a truly multisensory cultural experience, allowing Ted and Caroline to engage with the celebration beyond sight alone.

A special thank you to Bruce Adkins for being a Sighted Guide, Assistant, and helping with photos and videos to capture this special day, and helping make the experience even more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Honored to share that Chelsea C. Nguyen was invited to participate in the American Society of Ophthalmic Trauma Annual Meeting & Skills Transfer Lab from April 24–26.

Chelsea had the opportunity to speak with Marfi Abusufid about the mission of CN Vision Image Consulting and how adaptive makeup education empowers blind and visually impaired individuals to apply makeup independently while building confidence and self-expression.

During the conference, CN Vision Image Consulting proudly partnered with Clinique Makeup (Clinique) to provide hands-on Blind Mirrorless Makeup Demonstrations and training using Clinique products. ASOT Attendees, such as International Trauma Eye Surgeons, learned accessible techniques designed to support independence for their patients after vision loss and eye trauma.

Together, the ASOT, CN Vision Image Consulting, and Clinque are helping create more inclusive opportunities and empowering individuals impacted by eye trauma to live confidently and independently. ✨

Tuesday, April 2, 2026, at H-E-B Plus! in Leander, Texas, was one of those moments that really stayed with me.

Rick San Juan and Chelsea C. Nguyen, serving as his sighted guide, decided to try something new at H-E-B Plus—testing the free Be My Eyes app to see if he could complete his grocery shopping independently.

And honestly… we didn’t know what to expect.

With the help of a live virtual volunteer, Rick was guided through the entire process—finding items, scanning groceries, bagging them, and even navigating self-checkout. Step by step, it all came together.

And it worked.

There was a moment of pause—realizing just how powerful something like this can be. Not just convenience, but confidence. Not just assistance, but independence.

Chelsea captured the experience as it unfolded, witnessing firsthand what’s possible when the right tools and support come together.

This is what accessibility looks like.
This is what independence feels like.

With support from a live virtual volunteer, he’s guided on how to scan, bag, and locate checkout—making the entire experience more accessible.

We recently visited a local HEB and are exploring future opportunities to support more inclusive shopping experiences for blind and visually impaired customers. This is what independence can look like with the right tools and support.

On Labor Day, Rick San Juan, who is totally blind, and Chelsea C. Nguyen, his sighted guide, went parasailing with Third Coast Parasail at Crystal Beach.

On the ride, they would take turns with other people to go up the sail. As they were the first group to go, they were attached to the sail of a boat. As they were up in the sky, Chelsea would tell Rick about the surroundings in the air. When their turn was over, Captains Rob and Kloe would bring down the sail.

Once they came down, they spent the rest of the trip enjoying the water splashing from the jet boat.
