No wonder fear throws a wrench in our well-laid plans. We have been relying on dead gods, on lifeless theories and trying to fit our keys into corroded locks. This isn't living, it is throwing in with empty promises with nothing to back them up. Here we are, spiritual creations, trying to survive on mental and physical remedies, never considering that we have access to treasuries of ideas and wisdom and spiritual knowledge. These are the appointment makers that say, "go here, go there," and we can go in confidence. Spirit, come out of your web of supposed protection and begin to use the gifts. They are yours and they are beautiful beyond the reasoning human mind. ~ I am you! I am yourself! Don't let me waste Upon the shelf. ~

SURPRISES GALORE in the O.S. Goff photo of reportedly a CROW CAMP, winter of 1894-95 in Eastern Montana. The Crow man displayed a collapsible brass telescope (spyglass) with a leather grip around the largest section. For a cute surprise, look to the right of the manโ€™s upper thigh for a dog peeking around the tepee. A hat, probably the photographer's, was hanging above the entrance of the tepee at the rear. A flat-sided metal container was in front of the closest tepee.

Rarely(!) seen in traditional photography, cyanotypes (blueprints) were typically used for architectural drawings. PC users can enlarge/clarify image by clicking. Text and digital restoration of photo by Gary Coffrin.

๐—–๐—›๐—˜๐—–๐—ž๐—œ๐—ก๐—š ๐—œ๐—ก, 1961. Montie Montana had a long career as a trick roper, rider, stuntman, and actor. He had roped a clerk who wore a Shriner's fez at Omahaโ€™s Hotel Fontenelle. The bellhopโ€™s flattop and the clerkโ€™s narrow tie will look familiar to aging boomers. Note the sign for 4 PM check out. Click image to clarify/enlarge on a PC.

His childhood home was Wolf Point, MT. At age 15, Montie Montana made his first paid appearance, receiving $15 for rope tricks at the 1925 Miles City (MT) Round-up. He later performed at every major rodeo arena. Starting in 1934, he rode in nearly every Tournament of Roses Parade before his death in 1998. During years of performances at schools, Montie Montana was seen by perhaps 10 million students, including myself at Miles City. Photo from John Savage collection, Durham Museum, Omaha. DINNER AT THE CHUCKWAGON, 1887. The rope corral had merely one rope to restrain the working horses of the spring branding roundup. (PC users, click to enlarge and see more detail.) You can see large tree limbs that were dragged in for firewood, single-pole range tents, and 16 cowboys. The L.A. Huffman photo was on the huge SL Ranch, southeast of Miles City, Montana. Smoke could be seen from the open flame. Text and digital restoration of photo by Gary Coffrin.

Note the horseโ€™s dust as it tried to quickly stop. (If using a PC, click image to enlarge.) Marcell briefly owned a studio in Miles City (Montana) that year, but the pine, rather than cottonwood, trees indicate that the photo was shot elsewhere.

Bee-Ho Gray had a 50-year career as a Western performer in wild west shows, circuses, silent films, and later in radio programs. He and Will Rogers, also an expert roper, worked for the same wild west show early in their careers. Gray performed for at least four USA presidents. The source file was a mediocre scan on eBay of a real photo post card. Photoshop was used to bring out as much detail as possible. Text and digital restoration of photo by Gary Coffrin.

Never let another person tell you what to think and what to do. Start now to think things through and get ready for what you want. You have to be prosperous in your thinking long before you see the money. Your health must have the support of your mind and words before it can keep its good condition. You have to be lovable before anyone can love you. We think "instant" when it takes time. Remember the flower - first the bud and then the bloom, and all the steps that go in between. What do you want? See it now in your mind, and keep on seeing it so clearly that it becomes a treasure map. Enjoy looking at it and stop questioning whether it is going to work. It is your map - give it your attention. ~ We talk to Wakan Tanka and are sure he hears us. ~

A HARD DAYโ€™S NIGHT. Seven gents still in boots and some with spurs are sleeping on the ground at the Hat X Ranch. Cattle had stampeded during a nighttime thunder and lightning storm. The herds of the CK, Hat X, and XIT became intermingled, adding extra work for the exhausted cowboys. On July 28, 1904, the night storm knocked down every tent except L.A. Huffmanโ€™s.

Huffman was with the roundup for about three weeks, documenting real life on the open range in Eastern Montana (The Big Open, in Huffman's terms). Huffman used a sheet of nitrate film for the photo. Text and digital restoration of photo by Gary Coffrin.
