Born June 22, 1952, on the Six Nations Reserve in Ohsweken, Ontario, Mr. Greene is a 73 year old FIRST NATIONS Canadian actor who belongs to the ONEIDA tribe. He has worked on stage, in film, and in TV productions in Canada, the U.K., and the U.S.

He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his 1990 performance in "Dances with Wolves". Other films you may have seen him in include Thunderheart, Maverick, Die Hard with a Vengeance, the Green Mile, and Wind River. Graham Greene graduated from the Centre for Indigenous Theatre in 1974 & immediately began performing in professional theatre in Toronto and England, while also working as an audio technician for area rock bands. His TV debut was in 1979 and his screen debut in 1983. His acting career has now spanned over 4 decades & he remains as busy as ever. In addition to the Academy Award nomination for Dance with Wolves, he has been consistently recognized for his work, and also received nominations in 1994, 2000, 2004, 2006, and 2016. Graham Greene lives in Toronto, Canada, married since 1994, and has 1 adult daughter.

George Custer left Fort Lincoln (near Bismarck, ND) with three .50 caliber and two 1-inch Gatling guns. The 1-inch guns, as in the photo, were likely left at Powder River Supply Depot near Terry, MT. After Terry and Col. John Gibbon rendezvoused, Custer left the .50 caliber guns behind to avoid slowing the 7th Cavalry. Sec. Lt. William Low and the 20th Infantry Gatling guns traveled with Col. Gibbon.

F. Jay Haynes captured the view at Ft. Lincoln in probably June 1877. The mix of uniform styles included coats made for the Civil War. Caissons for ammunition were in view. Haynes stereoscopic camera used glass-plate negatives that required chemical baths immediately before and after shooting. Click image on a PC to better see detail. During the GREAT FLOOD OF 1881, huge masses of ice elevated the steamboat Helena perhaps 10-15 feet above its previous level on the Missouri River. The same ice jam destroyed the steamer Western. Ice and water swept away Vermillion (South Dakota) and submerged Green Island (Nebraska). Even Omaha had flooding.

Before bridges were common, people and livestock would cross rivers in winter by walking on ice. The March thaw would break up the ice, with jams sometimes causing flooding.

Photographer Stanley J. Morrow of Yankton (South Dakota) captured stunning photos of the ice jam's aftermath. Morrow had previously operated a gallery at Fort Keogh, adjacent to Miles City (Montana), before the arrival of L.A. Huffman in December 1879. Text and digital restoration of photo by Gary Coffrin.

Gil Birmingham is an American actor of Comanche ancestry, best known for his portrayal of Billy Black in the The Twilight Saga film series.

Birmingham was born in San Antonio, Texas. His family moved frequently during his childhood, due to his father's career in the military. He learned to play the guitar at an early age and considers music his "first love". After obtaining a Bachelor of Science from the University of Southern California, he worked as a petrochemical engineer before becoming an actor. In the early 1980s, a talent scout spotted Birmingham at a local gym, where he had been bodybuilding and entering bodybuilding contests. This led to his first acting experience, in a music video for Diana Ross, for her 1982 hit song "Muscles". After appearing in Ross' music video, Birmingham began to pursue acting as his primary career. He studied acting with Larry Moss and Charles Conrad. In 1986, Birmingham made his television debut on an episode of the series Riptide. By 2002, he had a recurring role as the character Oz in the medical drama Body & Soul, starring Peter Strauss. In 2005, he was cast as the older Dogstar in the Steven Spielberg six-part miniseries Into the West. He recently played a Texas ranger a ranger, in Hell or High Water, opposite Jeff Bridges.

"People need to wake up. They can't hear God's voice if they're asleep." --Vernon Cooper, LUMBEEโ€“ Black Elk, a Sioux, talks about the hoop of many hoops. He says that above the people is a hoop, a conscience, the total belief of the people. If the hoop is sick, meaning dysfunctional, co dependant, a lot of alcoholism, family abuse, violence, racism and sexual abuse, the people can get used to this and think this is normal. In other words, the people are asleep. If we have left the spiritual way of life, the people are asleep. If we are giving our power to another entity, the people are asleep. In most tribes, there are Coyote Clans. The job of the Coyote Clan people is to wake the people up. They need to become a nuisance and irritate the people. We must return to the spiritual walk. Oh Great Spirit, keep me awake today. Let me hear the voices of our ancestors...let me hear the voices of the Grandfathers. Because everybody is doing it doesn't make things right. Let me hear the truth today and become a coyote for the people. Give me the courage to be willing to be different. Let me walk straight on the Red Road.

SPOONINโ€™, 1941. Two guests at the Quarter Circle U dude ranch operation. They were enjoying time in a handsomely-crafted garden seat. Marion Post Wolcott was the photographer in August 1941.
