My goals for myself these days are more organic.

I'm creating work around thinking that is powerfully introspective.

I'm also paying attention to things I might once have considered small and have come to understand aren't small at all.

Fresh flowers on my table every week.

My passion for music and cooking.

My eight goats, who could not care less what I accomplished that day.

Being “Nan” to my two-and-a-half-year-old grandson, Kash, who can light me up simply by being in the same room.

These are threads in the fabric of the new story I'm weaving in my heart.

I've had opportunities cross my path that at another point in my life I might have felt obligated to consider.

Now I can't even pause long enough to consider them.

I'm in love with my life. I want you to be in love with yours.

I've been watching something interesting happen among women I've followed in the online business world.

Jenna Kutcher built The Goal Digger Podcast into an enormous success and had over one million followers on Instagram. After nearly a decade and 968 episodes, she paused her podcast. In explaining the decision, she wrote about questioning the places where she continued performing because she was good at something rather than because it still lit her up.

Not because it failed.

Marketing Influencer Amy Porterfield made an even bigger decision and retired Digital Course Academy after nearly a decade, a program that had served more than 28,000 business owners and generated more than $54 million. Porterfield specifically said the decision wasn't the result of burnout or boredom. She had begun feeling pulled toward what she described as the next season of her work.

Again, not because it failed.

At some point, "Can I do this?" stops being the question.

We already know we can.

I've written blogs for years.

As a marketer, I understood the mechanics of content. Keywords. Search engines. Algorithms. Search intent. What people were looking for. What Google wanted.

There was a purpose behind every word.

But eventually I started writing differently.

I wrote because I had something to say.

I wrote about things I believed. Things that bothered me. Things I'd learned the hard way. Things I thought another woman might need to hear.

And something happened.

Writing wasn't simply helping me communicate what I thought.

Writing was helping me understand what I thought.

A part of why I decided to create curated visibility experiences just for women is because we show up differently.

We embrace passion and compassion. We're willing to examine what may be a little broken and dive into what it means to fix it.

Not simply so we can stand completely upright again.

But so, we can fly.

My poet friend Andrea Gibson has a phrase I will probably reference forever.

She calls these things "Vitamins for the Spirit."

Those words peel layers of angst away for me every time I hear them.

Confession. I have never journaled.

I wasn't the woman in my 30's who kept beautiful notebooks beside her bed or woke up every morning eager to write three pages about her feelings. I didn't meditate, do yoga or practice somatic breathing to keep the stress demons away. I learned about all of that later in life, when I was actually old enough to understand why the hell I was doing it.

For most of my life, if something needed my attention, I dealt with it and moved on.

That's what strong women do, right?

We handle things.

We get through the hard things.

We carry them because there isn't always another choice.

Through our lived experience, many of us learned that minimizing pain and desensitizing ourselves to unpleasantness was how strong women continued to grow past trauma and loss.

Put it in the suitcase we renamed "baggage."

Close the lid.

Pick the damn thing up and keep walking.

Hell, one day I finally threw mine off a bridge and wiped the dust off my hands.

I wanted a career. My friends wanted careers. When Sally Ride became the first American woman in space, she became my hero. She represented possibility for women. She represented courage.

I wanted a career because I wanted choices. I wanted independence. I wanted agency over my own life.

So I built the career and then I left it. I made a choice at 55 to build something new, something that belonged to me. At 60, I made a pivot to who I am today.

And if I had to do it all over again... I'd make the same decision. Because that chapter made me who I am.

The other day, I watched my friend Kat lead a live Zoom mastermind. She stood in front of a room full of women and told the truth. The real truth.

She wasn't standing there pretending she'd always had it figured out. She was standing there saying, "I'm here to prove you can build something extraordinary, even when life is messy."

That's what I think women of a certain age are looking for now. Not perfection. Not carefully curated lives. Not another Instagram reel.

Truth. Real conversations. Real women. Real transformation.

The truth builds trust. The truth reminds us we're not alone. The truth gives someone else permission to believe they can do hard things too.

If you've been thinking about writing the book... Do it.

If you've been thinking about starting the business... Do it.

My mom is eighty-four. She's and Interior Designer and still designing beautiful rooms for people. There's dog-eared Architectural Digest magazines on her coffee table to stay inspired. She's still learning. She's still creating. She's still becoming.

Your next chapter isn't waiting for permission. It's waiting for you.

My partner, Christy, retired this year at fifty-six after spending thirty years in the same career with the same employer.

As that day got closer, I watched something happen. She was simply finished with what it represented.

When retirement finally came, I think everyone expected she'd relax. Instead, she spent months trying to figure out what life looked like without a job she'd had for three decades.

Then one morning everything changed. She literally leaped out of bed and before her morning Diet Pepsi, she displayed more excitement than I'd seen in months. "I've got it!"

Thirty years of experience suddenly connected in a way neither of us saw coming.

That's what purpose does. It wakes up a part of you that you thought had gone quiet.
