In public relations, we can manage narratives, craft statements, and redirect conversations—but nothing protects a reputation better than integrity.
People may talk about you. They may misinterpret you or even try to damage your name. But if you consistently lead with honesty, professionalism, and character, you make the PR job easy. Integrity becomes your built-in defense system.

Lies left unchallenged can cause long-term reputational damage: as silence can be misinterpreted as acceptance.

Several years ago, when I was hosting radio, I made a statement on air. One listener took that statement and posted her misconstrued version online. The distortion spread quickly—like wildfire—far beyond the original context and resulted in people quickly weighing in on information that they didn't fact check.

I was advised to ignore it, that it would eventually blow over! But having indept knowledge of the cost associated with reputational damage I decided not to take that advice.

I immediately took the YouTube video of the radio broadcast and posted it online and shared it with those who did not see the video but were giving opinions based on the listeners post.

Had I not posted that video online to counter the misinformation that was being peddled, it would have destroyed my reputation.
Even though you don’t need to argue with every one online who says something negative about you, protecting your reputation is always in your best interest.

Sometimes one person doesn’t just open a door—they redirect your entire destiny.
For me, that person was Dr. Barbara Reynolds, then the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Guyana.

At the time, I was working in banking. Dr. Reynolds invited me to the University of Guyana to deliver my very first Customer Service Training seminar to the university’s administrative staff. I walked in nervous but prepared—never imagining how that single moment would change the course of my career.

That first seminar changed everything.

It opened the door for me to conduct customer service training across Guyana, pushed me to leave the banking industry, and launched my path into media, communications, and public relations. I went on to host radio and television, work with government and private-sector organizations, and eventually earn two master’s degrees—one in Communication and one in Business Administration—to sharpen my skills and deepen my impact.

That one opportunity given to me by Dr. Barbara Reynolds helped me find my path, my purpose, and my passion.

Toxicity Will Tarnish Your PR Faster Than a Scandal.
You can have the best brand, the strongest media pitch, or the most expensive campaign, but if your attitude is toxic, it seeps through everything.
Negativity, gossip, arrogance, or poor emotional control don’t just hurt morale — they destroy credibility.

In PR, your energy is your press release.
The way you treat people behind closed doors eventually writes your public headline.
