🌳 Huntersville Greenway Project Update!
🌳 A public meeting was recently held regarding the newest greenway project in Huntersville. Project Managers from both Mecklenburg Parks & Recreation and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services were on hand to discuss their respective roles and answer questions.
🌳 The South Prong Clark Creek Greenway will be a 1.25-mile segment that will connect the Vermillion, Asbury Park, and Mirabella neighborhoods to what will become the Downtown Huntersville connection. The project is currently in the design and planning phase, with construction expected to begin in the second half of 2027 and completion anticipated sometime in 2029.
🌳 From the other side, people will be able to head west underneath I-77 and access Huntersville’s expansive greenway network, The Vine. Future additions to the South Prong Clark Creek Greenway are proposed to go all the way to the future location of Eastfield Park down in the southeast corner of Huntersville.
🌳 Storm Water Services will be performing a waterway restoration concurrent to the greenway construction. These restoration projects slow the water currents, which greatly reduces sediment. It also allows for invasive species (e.g., kudzu) to be cleared from the area, slowing their spread both in the area and downstream. A variety of native trees will be planted to restore and fill in the area. Both of these projects are appreciated, and residents are excited that they’re finally moving forward!
