Seneca Development Corporation/SCED

In 2013, the Nation also established the Seneca Commission for Economic Development (SCED). The purpose of the Commission is to ensure the advancement of its economic sovereignty. The Commission will establish a formal mechanism to develop and execute a long-term economic development agenda and implementation plan for the Nation. It will coordinate joint economic development activities with existi

ng Nation enterprises and departments – Seneca Gaming Corporation, Seneca Enterprises, Seneca Holdings, Seneca Construction Management Corporation, SNI Center for Business Growth and the Community Planning & Development Department -with respect to areas of mutual interest and revenue potential. The Commission’s activities will include, but are not limited to:
• develop and implement a long-range economic development strategy to improve the quality of life for our people;
• identify targeted industry sectors that can best leverage the Nation’s sovereign advantages in economic activities;
• conduct projects as identified and approved by the Nation and Tribal Council, which will help to generate revenue; create jobs through apprenticeships and vocational training; and stimulate industrial, commercial and residential growth on our territories; and
• perform a marketing function to build greater awareness of the Nation’s position and presence as an economic generator to Western New York to help establish local, regional and state partnerships, both public and private sectors.
