I launched a new website for Modern Ohana a couple weeks ago, so stopping in for brunch on Valentine’s Day felt like a good way to show them some love as they start this new chapter. 💘

After 10 years as Mix in Ithaca, the owners have reimagined the space into with a tropical-inspired menu and vibe, including a refreshed interior that looks great and fits the new direction so well. Congrats to Chef Mix and Shayne on the recent reopening and this next phase for the restaurant.

It was raining (not surprisingly) and a little cold (by Pacific Northwest standards), but I went anyway. And honestly, it was perfect.

The Portland Japanese Garden encompasses 12.5 acres and is widely considered the most authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan. The space is made up of several distinct garden areas, each reflecting a different approach to traditional Japanese landscape design.

The rain kept most people away (and it was a Thursday), so it was quiet and nearly empty. I got to wander slowly and take it all in at my own pace. I can easily see spending hours here on a warm, sunny day, but experiencing it in the rain (and with the yukizuri winter scenery) made it feel especially calm and memorable.

If you’re ever in Portland, I definitely recommend a visit.

A reminder that some of the best connections start by talking to strangers.

1️⃣ Shannon and I met at Squarespace Circle Day in NYC last fall and ended up hanging out all night (instant bestie energy).

2️⃣ My husband and I met Marc while on a day-trip bus tour from Málaga to Ronda in Spain last February, and the three of us spent the day exploring and sharing lunch + endless conversation.

3️⃣ I was so happy to meet up with both of them again during my train travels! From chance meetings around the world to having dinner all together in San Francisco (where they both live). These two are awesome!

I’ve been on quite the adventure this past week. Paso Robles was my first stop on the Coast Starlight ( train from LA → Seattle), and this experience at Sensorio was the highlight.

I went to my client ’s holiday party yesterday afternoon and met Kelly in person for the first time. After collaborating on her brand and website, the in person meeting felt long overdue. It was especially fun seeing the logo I created out in the world, from the big sign on the building to the decals on the doors. With Red Bird Tile approaching its one year anniversary, it’s been amazing to see the business take shape and thrive. Great job, Kelly!

It's A Wonderful Run 5k in Seneca Falls. Thought I was recruiting friends for a casual 5K. Turns out I signed us up for a full-on festive spectacle with 4,600 participants. No regrets.
