For the Love of Racing - written by Daniel Roberts
Sunday - As is often the case, we were eliminated in the first round. We're all exhausted, and we still have to drive home.
Upon our safe return, we unpack and call it a night by 11pm. I take a moment to pray and express gratitude for a fantastic weekend spent with friends and family. As I lie silently, my mind starts racing again, thinking about the shavings in the oil pan and the expenses incurred - $500 in fuel and $400 in hotel rooms, not to mention food and other costs.
Eventually, my mind comes to rest, and I remind myself that I race because I love it. The memories we create, the friendships we forge, and the smiles on the children's faces when they sit in the driver's seat are all priceless. I'm reminded that nothing is impossible, and dreams do come true.
The question I have for you is, why do we race? As Albert Einstein once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."
I race because I love it. I'm uncertain how long this season will last, but I'm grateful that the Lord has blessed me with this opportunity. I'm thankful for a wife who supports my dreams, a team that sacrifices their time to help a friend, and local tracks for providing a platform for "low-budget, inexperienced drivers" like myself. To the fellow racers who have encouraged and assisted me along the way. Thank you!
