Last night, our team had the honor of attending the very first event for the The Emilia Quinn Foundation. 🤍 We were so proud to sponsor and support this new foundation and the incredible work they are beginning in our community.
This one is especially close to my heart.
The Emilia Quinn Foundation was started by Katie Holmes, who married one of my cousins and is truly one of the kindest people I have ever known. Last November, at nine months pregnant, Katie went to the hospital after her water broke. Heartbreakingly, she and Dobbin did not get to bring their daughter, Emilia Quinn, home.
What has stayed with me ever since is Katie’s strength and, more than anything, her faith. In the middle of unimaginable grief, Katie and Dobbin have continued to speak about how deeply they love Emilia, how important her life is, and how they continue to trust the Lord even when they don’t understand why this became part of their story.
Now, they are turning that grief into a way to care for other families.
The Emilia Quinn Foundation was created to support parents experiencing stillbirth and pregnancy loss, especially those who suddenly lose access to maternity or parental leave benefits because their baby did not survive. These mothers have still gone through pregnancy and childbirth. These parents still need time to recover, to grieve, and to process the loss of the life they were preparing to bring home. 🤍
Their mission is to help give families that time by providing financial support when benefits or paid leave are no longer available.
I have seen firsthand what it looks like when someone turns unimaginable loss into a legacy of helping others. Years ago, our family lost Allison, and I watched Aunt Drew take that heartbreak and help build Angels for Allison in her memory. To now watch Katie find the strength to honor Emilia by helping other grieving families makes me incredibly proud.
And one of the best things we heard last night was that because of the support this foundation has already received, they will be able to begin funding families this September, rather than waiting until next year. 🥹🤍
