I've recently been asked to join the Flager College VPA Board, I’m getting out of my comfort zone to raise money for the design/arts program. Details below, link in bio

Roar and Raise, Flagler College's annual fundraising campaign, kicks off this April 3-4.

My program, Fifties for Flagler, offers a matching campaign up to $1000. I’m aiming to gather 20 friends who can contribute $50 each or any combination of $50. ($100, $250, etc). Your generous donations will directly support the Visual & Performing Arts Fund for Excellence.

💢 I’m a Flagler Alumni Class of ‘96, now serving on the Visual & Performing Arts Board.
💢 Flagler was instrumental in my career, and my experience was life-changing.
💢 Flagler is one of the top design programs in the Southeast and feeds the pipeline of employment-ready designers.
💢 Our diverse body of students are avid participants in professional organizations like AIGA.

One particular program the Fund supports is the Spirit Lives On through Memorial Scholarship, in honor of Ashley Sellers, class of ’20. Ashley was a rising star in the graphic design world before her life was tragically cut short in a car accident.

For every $50 you donate, or any combination of $50 ($100, $250, $500), you’ll support students like Ashley and many others, and HDco will generously match your donation up to $1000.

It is with great pleasure that I share my new role as a member of Flagler College's Visual & Performing Arts Advisory Board. As a proud Flagler alum from the class of '96, this opportunity to support and advocate for the VPA program is a true honor. I am excited to give back to my alma mater in a meaningful way at this stage of my life and career.

The Visual and Performing Arts Advisory Board is dedicated to bridging the gap between the arts community and the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Flagler College. The board aims to raise funds for scholarships and programmatic needs by engaging volunteers. Additionally, it will provide mentorship, leadership, and guidance to students pursuing their academic and career interests in the arts. The advisory board will also play a crucial role in advocating for art programs, faculty, and resources that will enhance the recruitment and retention of students in this field of study.

Thank you to Mercedes Arensberg, Director of Development and Family Engagement, for shepherding me through the process and Leslie Robison, Dean of the School of Creative Arts & Letters, for the recommendation.

The third article in this multi-part series addresses the challenges employers face leading an evolving workforce’s environmental, social, and political demands.

In our previous article, we discussed how to close the gap. With solid data and insights in hand, the next step is shifting your mindset and, consequently, your actions or behaviour. We admit that this is not easy. Even with a clear understanding of the workforce, your responsibility is to shareholders, not the rank and file.

If you’re a senior leader or in the C-Suite, your skillset, personality, leadership qualities, and track record are responsible for your rise to the top of your company. So why is it so difficult for leaders to adapt and change to new realities in their workforce? After all, these traits and qualities got you there, so why should you change now?

We would argue that failure to adapt to the needs of an evolving workforce isn’t from a lack of intelligence, empathy, or leadership.

It’s your personality. The personality characteristics that got you to the top will not always keep you at the top.

Today is the day. It's hard to believe 20 years have passed since the founding of Harrington Design Company. Starting from humble beginnings in the wake of 9/11, we've had the privilege of working with some of the largest and most well-respected brands in the world. ⁠

Today I would like to say thank you to the many people who believed in me. My team members, clients, teachers, mentors, friends, and family, without your love and support we never would have made it. You know who you are and I remain indebted to you. Thank you to AIGA and the Design Community who gave me strength and courage. Thank you to Flagler College who made me tough and develop a thick skin.⁠

And to St. John & Partners, who took me from Junior Art Director to Internet pioneer and gave me that not so gentle nudge out the door which started this whole thing. Everything happens for a reason.⁠

This little agency started in one of the most unstable and uncertain times in our modern history. Surviving that first year was an act of faith and embedded a deep belief that this is the path I am meant to follow. When the storms hit, and they invariably do, I look back at that time and say, "If you could survive that, you can survive anything."⁠

As I reflect, I think about the good times and the laughter but also the sad memories and tears at the loss of a client or an employee who moved on. Both the victories and the failures are a part of this story.⁠

For those of you who dream of one day becoming an entrepreneur, to hang your shingle I say to you, if I can do it surely you can too. Consider this the little nudge you need to go for it.⁠

What do the next 20 years hold? Who knows. But God willing we'll be here for a long time to come.⁠
