Have you been hacked? How to get help...

There's a lot you can do to SECURE and protect your accounts. And, it is possible to get help and get your Facebook back. With my own hacking incident, the scammers somehow added themselves to my Business Manager, demoted me and my Admins, and promptly started running scam ads. Thankfully, the Facebook AI caught the shenanigans in time and shut down my ad account before any money was spent.

Scammers got in to my friend Molly Mahoney's Business Manager and ran up $20k of scam ads! 😫 Yikes. Fortunately she got most all of that back quickly, but she's still dealing with the aftermath. Adryenn Ashley had a very similar situation and the hackers took control of her page and started posting junk videos. The list goes on. It blows my mind how much nefarious activity - just in the hacking arena - happens on Facebook with no accountability. 😢

I was fortunate to regain control of my Business Manager and Ad Account within 48 hours. But this is somewhat rare. As you likely know, Facebook is not known for its customer support and it's practically impossible for most users to speak with a human. So, I've put a ton of research into this mega post with steps and solutions to help regain control of your accounts and to hopefully prevent any hacking incidents from ever happening (again)!!

"These changes are in response to common feedback from our community," a Facebook spokesperson told Engadget. "We conduct ongoing research with people to hear what parts of Facebook are working well for them, and to gather feedback about what we could be doing better. One of the themes we’ve heard is that some people feel that there’s too much political content in their News Feeds. We hope these changes address this feedback and preserve the ability for people to find and interact with political content on Facebook, while respecting their appetite for it at the top of their News Feed."

Facebook says some engagement signals are better than others at indicating which posts people deem interesting or valuable. As a result, the company is expanding some tests related to engagement signals. The tests put less importance on how likely a user is to share or comment on political content. "At the same time, we’re putting more emphasis on new signals such as how likely people are to provide us with negative feedback on posts about political topics and current events when we rank those types of posts in their News Feed," Facebook wrote in an updated blog post.

The changes could reduce the level of misinformation on Facebook, if the algorithms are able to effectively detect and de-emphasize all political content. Political campaigns might have to rethink their strategies of how to reach voters too. On the flip side, the move could come as a blow to news organizations, especially those focused on politics, given the volume of traffic Facebook can drive to websites.

Do you have 2FA set up on Instagram? 🔐 🥳 If not, definitely get on it!!! Facebook just launched 'Security Checkup' for Instagram - about time, too!! Facebook has had this feature for awhile.

We strongly recommend enabling two-factor authentication. If you’re using WhatsApp, in the coming weeks you will be able to protect your account using your WhatsApp number in certain countries. Alternatively, you can enable two-factor using your phone number, or an authenticator app like Duo Mobile or Google Authentication.

For ALL your important online accounts, you ideally have 2FA set up and you use a long, cryptic password that can only be accessed using a solid, reliable password manager. Never commit passwords to memory. (Crazy to think some of the most popular passwords are 'password' or '123456' or '111111' 😳). Also, set up login alerts and ensure your phone number and email address are up to date. Periodically check which devices are logged in and what apps have access.
