The Talent That Surrounds Us: Poster Design
Each year this Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra hosts a youth concerto competition where students from all over the state compete to perform alongside the Orchestra during a concert at Kahilu Theatre. This opportunity is a big deal for these kids!
A little-known fact about the Orchestra’s youth concerto competition is that they were the first organization within the entire state of Hawai‘i to begin hosting a competition such as this. Since its inception, other orchestras have followed suit and created their own youth concerto competition, but the Kamuela Philharmonic was the first to do it. Pretty cool.
This is the 8.5x11 poster I designed for this year’s concert that features the winners of this year’s competition. All three young pianists will perform in front of a live audience at Kahilu Theatre on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at 2 pm.
Something else that I like about this particular concert is that the program really showcases talent from our state.
In addition to the concerto winner performances, the Philharmonic will also showcase a Big Island composer by the name of Irminsul by presenting a World Premiere of his work, “The Three Virtues of Zarathustra,”—a multimovement work that an adventure through the virtues of “Good Thoughts,” “Good Words,” and “Good Deeds.” And in my humble opinion, these are virtues we all should strive to embrace. It is a beautiful and thought-provoking introspective that touches the soul.
This youth concerto competition concert, as it is dubbed within the organization, is ALWAYS a highlight of the Orchestra’s season because these young virtuosos are incredibly talented and blow people away with their performances!
