Young people should not have to learn about birth control from rumors, fear, or group chats.

They deserve clear answers about how each option works, what it does, what it does not do, and which questions to ask before making a decision.

Adolescent-friendly care means honest information without shame.

He's probably not going to make that appointment on his own. He's probably not going to bring it up first.

But you might notice before he does. The withdrawal. The short fuse. The exhaustion that sleep isn't fixing.

This Men's Health Week, check in on the dads, partners, sons, and friends around you. Ask how he's really doing. Help him make the call. Go with him if you need to.

Sometimes showing up for the people you love means nudging them toward their own care. To make an appointment with Rodgers Health Center, call 816.474.4920.

Doula support isn't only for the birthing parent. More and more, dads and partners are finding that having a doula means they don't have to figure out their role alone.

A doula helps partners feel prepared and present, not lost in the corner of the room, wondering what to do. When the whole family feels supported, everyone comes through it better.

A doula isn't just someone who holds your hand during labor, though that matters too.

A doula is your consistent support person throughout the entire journey. Before birth, they help you understand your options, build a birth plan, and feel confident going into delivery. During labor, they provide physical comfort, emotional reassurance, and advocacy. Postpartum, they check in on you, not just the baby.

Research shows that doula-supported births are associated with lower rates of cesarean delivery, shorter labors, and higher satisfaction with the birth experience overall.

Support like this shouldn't be a luxury. Learn more about doula support at altruism-inc.org.

Birth control is not one-size-fits-all.

The right option depends on what matters to you, including your period, privacy, side effects, comfort with hormones, STI protection, and future pregnancy plans.

You deserve a conversation that starts with your real life.

Talk with a provider about the option that fits your real life. Learn more about Altruism, Inc. and The MaIH Center at altruism-inc.org.

When people think of PTSD, childbirth isn't always the first thing that comes to mind. But for many parents, the experience of labor and delivery leaves lasting emotional wounds.

It might look like flashbacks to the delivery room. Anxiety around hospitals or medical settings. Difficulty bonding. A disconnect from what was supposed to be a joyful moment.

Birth trauma doesn't require a "dramatic" story. A loss of control, feeling unheard, or experiencing a complication you weren't prepared for can all leave a mark.

You don't have to minimize what happened to you. What you went through matters.
Doulas provide continuous support during labor and delivery—advocacy, presence, and a familiar face in an overwhelming environment. That kind of support can make a real difference in how birth is experienced and remembered.

If you are navigating birth trauma, you are not alone. Learn more about doula support through altruism-inc.org.

Preeclampsia affects about 1 in 25 pregnancies in the U.S. It can come on suddenly, even if everything has been fine up to that point. And when it's not caught early, it can become life-threatening for both mother and baby.
Too many people are told their symptoms are "normal pregnancy stuff." Swelling. Headaches. Feeling off. Sometimes they're right. But sometimes those symptoms are a sign that something serious is happening.

You know your body. If something feels wrong, say so. And if you're not being heard, say it again. You have every right to push for answers.

This is also where doula support can make a difference. Having someone with you at appointments who can help you voice concerns, ask questions, and make sure nothing gets brushed aside.

To everyone who has experienced preeclampsia: we see you. Your story matters.
