I just finished this artwork that is the fifth in a series of the birds of the Texas Gulf Coast. I used my nature photography and graphic design skills to create this image.

This is fifth in a series of artwork on Texas Gulf Coast birds. I use my nature photography and graphic design talent to create these pieces of art.

Earlier this year we traveled the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail and visited Rockport, Texas to see the Whooping Cranes. They are winter migrants to the Texas coastline where they stay warm and dine on their favorite food the blue crab. We saw the cranes not far from The Big Tree at Goose Island State Park. They were hanging out in a field that was next to St. Charles Bay. I was amazed to see these amazing birds fly overhead and settle down in a field near a cattle pond.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine said the January 2023 survey stated that the whooping crane population indicated 536 whooping cranes, including 88 juveniles, in the primary survey area (approximately 160,125 acres) centered on Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service website notes that that all whooping cranes alive today have come from the all-time low of 15 whooping cranes that were wintering at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Austwell, Texas in 1941

The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo season is in full swing! I enjoyed photographing the Valley Lodge Trail Ride as it made its way through Katy and we attended the first night of the rodeo and saw Reba McEntire. She put on a fabulous show! Let’s Rodeo!
