A CEO of a local organization called me today slightly panicked and asked if everything was okay.

I said, “Yes, of course. Why?”

She told me their office was in a bit of a panic because I had unsubscribed from their newsletter, and they were worried I was unhappy.

I was able to calm things down pretty quickly and explained that I had asked my AI assistant to clean up my newsletter subscriptions.

Whoops.

Two takeaways:
1. Local organizations and businesses really care.
2. Maybe don’t trust your AI assistant too much.

While cleaning out some old stuff, I found this gem: my forklift operating license.

At my first job, I worked for an event marketing company, and driving forklifts was just part of the job.
Why am I posting this?

Because I remember being young and overly confident, thinking it was a little ridiculous that I had to take a three-day course just to operate what seemed like a pretty simple machine.

But, like most things, there was a lot more to it than I realized.
It was not just about moving pallets from one place to another. There were safety issues, blind spots, risks, and a right way to do it that only looks simple from the outside.
Marketing is a lot like that.

Sure, you can throw some things together, run a few campaigns, post a bit online, and maybe get something to work.
But doing it properly is more nuanced than it looks, and there are usually risks, inefficiencies, and missed opportunities that are hard to see if you do not really know what you are doing.

There is a reason the right way is usually a little more complicated. Not because it needs to be overcomplicated, but because good work tends to have more going on under the surface than people think.

I would not describe myself as a workaholic.
I do not want to work all the time, and I definitely do not think being constantly busy is something to be proud of.

But I do relate to this George Soros quote:
“When I have to, I work furiously because I am furious that I have to work.”

That is not because I hate work. I actually like building, solving problems, and moving things forward.

What I do hate is wasted time, unclear priorities, unnecessary meetings, and work that drags on longer than it should.
