Completing the Camper-trip-to Florida photo series, the second stop upon arriving back in Keene was to visit Gary @ Fran’s. Oil life indicator read 1% oil life remaining (not usually accurate) and we ran out of wiper fluid during the last mile of a dreary, light rain-filled final leg.

But a curious thing happened the night before we arrived home, when we were parked in a rest area in New York State. Around 7:30pm, a tapping, clicking, clanking, sort of sound started, coming forth from the defroster vent, driver’s side. First thought: peculiar. After a few minutes, worth opening the hood to check out (in the rain). No signs of a critter, mechanical issue or even electrical malfunction. Nothing. The clanking stopped occasionally but pretty much continued all night and through the morning drive home. Tough to sleep through for me, although the dog was unbothered.

Stopped to unload at our house and after sitting in my sun-drenched driveway for a while, the camper interior was very warm… and very quiet. Clanking gone and has not returned. Mechanic checked under the hood and saw no signs of anything.

I recorded the sound, twice! Because I knew I might need to prove that it had actually happened. So very glad it happened on the last night and not some other time during the trip when I would’ve been worried about what the heck it could be. Believe it or not, that was the most difficult part of an otherwise incredibly fun trip.
