Another announcement this month by Google, regarding future algorithm updates: Google said there will be a series of improvements aimed to help "...better surface relevant, satisfying content” from content creators “throughout this year...". Regarding ranking shakeups and drops, Google search liaison Danny Sullivan wrote, “...some sites with great content and hearts in the right place still don’t provide a satisfying page experience...”.
As always, Google provides no substantive, specific criteria on what its algorithms find most acceptable or that improve ranking potential.
The bottom line is, Google is dramatically changing the criteria for high ranking, and sites that experience ranking drops may never recover. As Google continues to update its core ranking systems, including the utilization of AI-driven semantic search, ranking fluctuations are almost assured. Accordingly, every business that relies on its website for leads must apply much greater scrutiny to its content strategies and web-based deliverables.
Google will however keep working to reward content creators; but not all deserve to rank well at this point.
