Tangipahoa Parish Road and Bridge crews will temporarily close B Alford Road in Kentwood on Monday, June 8, for a cross drain project.

Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said B Alford will be closed at a location approximately 1,500 feet southwest of its intersection with LA 1056 to replace a culvert. Work is scheduled from approximately 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. and no through traffic will be allowed in the construction zone.

All work is weather-permitting, and detours will be posted. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes and plan for potential delays.

Congratulations to Catherine Milton, daughter of Kohn Dean and Patricia Milton of Kentwood, for being recognized by the Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi for her outstanding Gold Award project, “Heroes in Blue.”

Catherine’s project focused on building positive relationships between children and law enforcement by helping young people better understand what police officers do, why they serve, and how they help keep our communities safe. Through her efforts, she created meaningful connections, reduced fear, and encouraged children to see law enforcement officers as trusted community helpers.

A special thank you goes to Kentwood Police Chief Mike Kazerooni and Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker, who helped support Catherine’s project and its mission of strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the next generation.

This is a wonderful example of a young person seeing a need in her community and taking action to make a difference. Congratulations Catherine!

At approximately 12:40 AM, Kentwood Fire Department responded to a structural fire at Hart’s Bar-B-Que. The building sustained severe damage. Please avoid the area if possible and use caution while traveling nearby as cleanup efforts continue.

For many in our community, Hart’s has been more than just a restaurant. Since the 1990s, Hart’s has been a longtime local staple—serving up BBQ, seafood, and creating memories for generations of families and friends.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the owners, employees, and everyone impacted by this loss. ❤️
