Twenty-five years ago, I was a young Airman about a year into my service, stationed way out at Eielson AFB in Alaska.

◼️ I remember the base shifting into lockdown almost instantly. Every screen was tuned to the news. People were lined up for the phones, desperate to reach family back home. I'd only been in uniform since 2000 — nothing about training prepares you for watching your country get attacked in real time.

It didn't feel real. It still doesn't, fully.

◻️ Signing up to serve means signing up for the unknown. You don't get to pick which chapter of history you'll live through while wearing the uniform. That morning reshaped careers across every branch, mine included, and it pushed a whole generation of people to enlist in the years that followed. Nobody who was serving that day came out the other side unchanged.

♥️ On this anniversary, I'm holding space for everyone we lost, and I'm grateful for every veteran and first responder who answered the call that day and every day since.

Don't waste the time you've been given.

And above all, give God the glory — He's the source of any real peace we find, even looking back on a day like that one.
