The Canadian dollar plummeted to the lowest level against the U.S. dollar since 2003 after President Trump imposed a 25% tariff on several of its goods. One US dollar now equals 1.47 Canadian dollars.
While that should be enough to prove tariffs may be the way to go for long-term economic stability, it pays to fully understand why President Trump wants tariffs.
President Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico isn’t just a temporary trade policy—it’s a strategic play with a long-term vision. While these tariffs come with immediate challenges, like rising costs for consumers and inflationary pressures, they are part of a broader plan to reshape America’s economic future. The goal? To bring manufacturing back to the U.S., protect vital industries, and strengthen national security. But this transformation won’t happen overnight. It requires short-term sacrifices for the promise of long-term gains.

On Monday August 5th, a US federal judge ruled that Google broke the law to become a search monopoly. It’s the first anti-monopoly ruling against a Big Tech company in decades, and it’s a major loss for Google.
• Google has exclusive agreements with Apple and Android manufacturers like Samsung to be the default search on their default browsers. Court documents showed that in 2022 Google paid Apple $20B to be the default in Safari. In 2021, Google paid companies over $26B to be the default.
