AIA SANTA BARBARA HONOR AWARD 2007, CASH / AIACC AWARD OF EXCELLENCE 2002 + AIACC SAVINGS BY DESIGN ENERGY EFFICIENCY INTEGRATION AWARD 2001 for the Isla Vista Elementary School project by Ralph Martin Project Architect & Team Designer + RNP INC., Architects Of Record, San Diego, CA. This 51,000 square foot state of the art school replaced the original late 1950's school facility. A series of staff + community visitors roundtable "village campus" design workshops with school district leaders were initiated to develop the sustainable stewardship standards with a very unique multi-cultural progressive teaching program, yet establishing, strengthening and enhancing the surrounding community's identity which is near the UC Santa Barbara campus.

San Diego Orchid Award winning Rancho Bernardo Branch Library in Rancho Bernardo, CA by LPA, Inc., Architects Of Record with Ralph Martin Architect | Project Designer + Project Architect. Seeking a fusion of tradition + innovation, this new community library is organized around a major open volume referred to as the "Arbor Room". Modeled after the traditional Native American's "Ramada" and the arbor shade structures within the local neighborhood, this room accommodates all the Reference + Adult Reading Areas. Perched upon a bluff overlooking Ranch Bernardo California, the East / West Axial planning orients the "Arbor Room" towards Mt. Woodson in the distance plus to the surrounding Rancho Bernardo valley below. The Children's portion of the Library will feature special window "portals" scaled for children which will also act as a sunscreen wall to the West. The Children's Library Area will also incorporate a playful, cheerful, educational interiors with a storytelling corner. The Rancho Bernardo Library is an earth integrated, natural daylight oriented, heavily insulated exterior walls & glazing building with sunshade devices, sunscreen wall & large overhanging roof at exterior reading patio including lush low water native landscape architecture to achieve a green civic building solution.
