As many of you know, one of our production facilities is in India. This is where we manufacture matchbooks and boxes, coasters, and coffee sleeves. Using a combination of imports and domestic production has allowed us to be extremely competitive on these imprinted items, supplying bulk branding to the restaurant/bar/hotel industries at a huge savings.
We have been absorbing the 10% increase that went in place back in March, but the August 1st tariffs have now increased the total tariff for products coming from India to 25%. Unfortunately this automatically applies to anything that is "on the water"; typically tariffs are implemented either at time of order placement, or at the point of departure, but for some reason these latest tariffs apply to US arrivals, which means all inbound shipments just jumped an additional 15% in price.
Luckily, summer is our slow period for these products; this price bump only affects a handful of orders, and we will be reaching out to those individually. But, for any future orders of matchbooks, match boxes, coasters, coffee sleeves, toothpicks, etc., we will need to increase pricing 15%. (...for now; there is still the possibility the India tariff amount will be increased.)
SIDE NOTE: Almost ALL matches are made in India or Sweden; there is one US manufacturer left (DD Bean & Sons), but their minimum is 100,000 books (ours is 2,500).
