I have to admit… Homeschooling this past year was rough. And now in year 2, things are going a little better but it's still a struggle some days.
It’s been a struggle to balance school and my business. When I’m in school mode all I want to do is work and when I finally get to work toward the end of the day, I get all these epiphanies about the school, or what one kid needs to work on, I’ll think of a better way to teach it.
Sometimes school takes its priority, as it should. Other days it's work. And add building a house on top of that (I joke I have 3 full times jobs!)
Even though we'd prepared for this year (our homeschooling journey actually began last year and had nothing to do with Covid), I’d tried to get the ideas out of my mind, that this isn’t a Pinterest board coming to life. We’re not decorating the kitchen with seashells on ocean week etc. BUT I did picture getting together with friends, playing with other kids, going to the zoo, going to the library. All of that has been different than I’d pictured, and we've all had to adapt.
Last week on Wednesday, they had their school stuff out and I just said "ya know what, put it away guys, let's do this sewing project we keep talking about" and we did, we measured, and cut and sewed all day. It was so much fun. They were "so tired of math" at the end of the day.
Sometimes you just have to be willing to do something different that day, in business, in school, for meals, plans with friends. Stay flexible, you've got this! And if you feel like you don't some days, that's ok too, I'm here for you!
