Shirley Dunn
October 26, 1945 - April 19, 2024

Washington- Shirley Creech Dunn went home to be with the Lord on April 19, 2024. She was born in Greene County to the late Jessie Earl Creech and Virginia Creech on October 26, 1945. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Dunn, and sister, Peggy Webb.

Shirley’s sanctuary was found in her yard. Planting shrubs and caring for her flowers was her passion and her peace. A good day was one spent with her hands in the soil and the sun on her back. She enjoyed watching the birds and all the wonders that nature offered.

A woman of many talents, Shirley was particularly adept at cross-stitching, painting, sewing, and art and crafts. She thoroughly enjoyed adult coloring books and the quiet thoughtfulness that came with the strokes of her pens and pencils.

With her family being the axis upon which her world turned, there was nothing Shirley wouldn’t do for her children and grandchildren. She was a loving and supportive “Mama” and an encouraging and doting “Mema.” Shirley was always present for sports events and activities that her kids and grandkids were involved in. Her favorite pastime, however, was playing a game, or a few, of spades with everyone on the weekends. She looked forward to the times spent with them and the family looked forward to the wonderful meals she prepared.

Shirley was a longtime employee of the Snow Hill Shirt Factory. Attended Hookerton Christian Church for many years before joining Snow Hill Church of God.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at Snow Hill Cemetery on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11 a.m. Family will greet friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.

Shirley is survived by her three sons, Bobby Lynn Gordon (Vanessa), Tony Alan Gordon (Marla), and Michael David Gordon (Renee); grandchildren, Michelle Shepherd (Trevor), Brittany Markanich (Justin), Drew Gordon, Tyler Hamm (Nina), and Justin Gordon; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Debbie Moye; best friend, Vicky Carter; and several nieces and nephews.
