Happy Independent Bookstore Day! 📚🤓📖

If lost, find me in a bookstore or in a park with a good book.

A few years back, I was sitting in the park reading a book after hanging with one of my few friends who still lives in the city and I realized wow I’m paying to come to NY to do the things I do back home 🤣 I was still living in California and doing the whole bicoastal thing — going to NYC less and less, but still 2-3 times a year. After that, I realized I need to make one big trip to the city every year for clients.

Now I’m living in TN, going back and forth (or in circles as the Lord keeps speaking) between here and CA. I’m not sure how much longer I’m going to do that. There are so many other places I want to see — including the 5 states I have left: Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Mississippi, and North Dakota. Plus so many countries!

One thing I always do while traveling: go to a few different local, independent bookstores. Like in Budapest, I spent every single night . In London, I stopped at every single bookstore and stationary shop recommended. In Des Moines, Iowa, in Barranco, Peru, in Vancouver, Canada, in Bend, Oregon, all along my drive from CA to TN stops in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Little Rock, Arkansas.

Still not over what and I created together. So grateful God used to bring us together in His perfect timing.

During our first shoot, we spent more time talking about how GOOD God is and how His timing is perfect than actually taking photos 🤣 but we still managed to get a cover photo for her newest book! So cool to see the final product of something God ordained before we even knew.

Earlier today my friend asked me when I feel lonely and my honest answer was: “I don’t”

I need to write a whole separate post on this because the Lord has taught me to LOVE and CRAVE solitude — very different than loneliness.

But her question sparked something in me: a longing and desire for gym community. I miss being in group classes. I miss working out in general. I don’t mind working out alone. It’s hard to feel lonely when I have worship blasting in my garage gym, but I miss the people and motivation.

I’d love to say I did it all myself, but I needed a friend to invite me to tag along (shoutout for inviting me to Grit), which led to when they first opened (throwback to cycling in the tent) where I met . Spin was where I started and at the time, MOXI3 strength felt like something I should try (thanks and for joining me). It wasn’t easy by any means. At the beginning I struggled to setup an exercise before the time was up, which led to reaching out for personal training. She helped build my confidence in the gym (10/10 recommend a personal trainer)

Motion was on another level. It was for legit fitness people. Gym rats. The equipment was far beyond anything I’d ever used outside of personal training. I’d only ever used a squat rack with Miq, so to walk into their open gym space and see squat racks as a station… I was intimidated.

Brandon asked me to take his headshots and mentioned taking a few photos at , which graciously let us do. I promised I would at least try a class and honestly, I ended up loving it. It was SO HARD and there were so many things I’d never done like a barbell overhead press (I’d love to see how goofy I looked the first time 🤣). It is attainable and the coaches push you beyond your own limits, especially as they get to know you and watch you grow — the coaches always saw more potential in me than I ever did. Thankful I met this friend at the gym and he introduced me to even more gym community.

Now to get back in the gym and look to the Lord for strength as He leads me on this knee recovery journey.

Sweet little moments with the Ackermans

When it comes to family photos, I’m all for snapping the group shots, but I really encourage you to interact with each other. Let your littles run wild and I’ll follow.

95% of the time when someone shows me a photo like they like, I know it’s a candid moment. Not posed. Not staged, but in the moment as life happens. So just hang out with your family, run around, laugh, enjoy!

Sometimes I can’t believe I get to do what I love while hanging out with my friends. Thank You, God. What didn’t He do?

In high school, as soon as you walked in the doors, there was a sign that said “there are no strangers here, only friends you haven’t met”

You could say I showed up to hundreds of shoots with random strangers, but truly the amount of those “strangers” who have become friends is a true testament to who God is and how good He is.

Making the move to TN (is this official announcement post??), everyone asked what I needed prayer for. I asked them to pray for community like the Lord built for me in California. It wasn’t overnight or even over a few months, especially not the deep, let’s do life together connections. Those took years, hard work, and the Word of the Lord.

As long as it’s founded on the Lord, He’ll do the rest 🙏🏽 so as I’ve seen community grow, I’ll be so real and say I’m still searching for the depth, but God’s showing me it’s there and it’s coming.
