Mike Desronvil is being called a hero for good reason. As the lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy trial, he was the one person standing between Clancy and a clean exit from that courtroom. The rest of the jury was ready to let her go. He was not.
Desronvil is conservative, Catholic, and Black, and the people lifting his name are right to say that none of those labels explain what he did. What explains it is character. In a moment when social pressure made it easy to fold, he answered to his conscience instead. That kind of courage deserves to be named and celebrated. Mike Desronvil showed what it looks like to actually stand for something.
