Read this honest and heartfelt post from a great Lake Orion small business, Boutique Chic. Now more than ever, we need to support our local small businesses in our communities.
Today is one of those days where my heart feels a little⌠conflicted. đЎ/đ
On one hand, itâs absolutely beautiful outside. The kind of day that makes you smile, throw the doors open, and feel so grateful to be here in our little Downtown Lake Orion community. âď¸
But on the other hand⌠my heart is heavy.
This week alone, Iâve seen multiple boutiquesâwomen-owned, passion-filled, community-rooted businessesâannounce theyâre closing their doors. One of them just minutes from us. And if youâve never owned a small business, itâs hard to fully understand what that really means.
Itâs not just a store closing.
Itâs someoneâs dream.
Someoneâs livelihood.
Someone who poured their time, energy, savings, and heart into something they believed in⌠gone.
And that loss doesnât just affect themâit ripples through the entire community.
Iâm incredibly blessed to be connected with so many boutique owners across the country and right here in Oakland County. We cheer each other on, support one another, collaborate, and celebrate the wins together. So when one of us hurts⌠we all feel it.
And then there are the quieter moments⌠the ones people donât realize we hear.
Comments like, âIâve seen something like that on Amazon for less.â
Iâll be honestâthat one stings.
Not just because of the price comparison⌠but because it misses the bigger picture.
So many of the pieces in our boutique are thoughtfully sourced, often handmade, and created by brands with purposeâmany of them women-owned, many giving back, many supporting artisans and survivors. These arenât mass-produced items sitting in a warehouse somewhere. And when you do see something âsimilarâ online, itâs often a knockoffânot the real story, not the real impact.
When you choose to shop small, youâre choosing so much more than just an item.
Youâre choosing to support a dream.
Youâre choosing to keep a storefront lit on Main Street.
Youâre choosing to invest in your own community.
I donât share this for sympathyâtruly. I share it because I want to be real with you. Because your support matters more than you may ever realize.
And on the flip side of all of this⌠I am endlessly grateful for each and every one of you who walks through our doors, shares our posts, tells a friend, or chooses to shop with intention. You are the reason weâre still here. đ¤
So today, Iâm holding both things at onceâgratitude and heartacheâand choosing to keep showing up.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. đ
